Gobble Gobble!

Ah…Turkey Day…actually Turkey Weekend is my favorite time of year.  This year’s dinner was delicious as usual.  Here’s a photo of our turkey-lurkey.  It’s golden brown and delicious.

When it was time to carve the bird, Smush and Koa rushed the kitchen to make sure they could catch whatever dropped.  Koa learned quickly from his first Thanksgiving when he happened to be under the turkey and ended up with tasty drippings all over this head/nose.

Here’s the full spread.  We had turkey, stuffing, creamed corn, cranberry sauce, crescent rolls, sweet potato, mashed potato, and GRAVY.  Yum.

I went to work this morning and actually had a good time.  Teresa was my partner for the day and it was just like old times.  We brought the kids downstairs to make a huge breakfast complete with eggs, sausage, waffles, pancakes, hashbrowns, and freshly-squeezed orange juice.  Afterward, we had a three-person dance party down the hallways with our patient, and then finished the day tackling an agitated patient back into his wheelchair.  On top of that, I finished all my treatments by noon and was home by 1:30 after it was all said and done.  On my way home, I met up with Jes and Koa at the Ferry Building to buy some bread from Acme for our turkey sammiches.

Here are photos from this week’s Gobble Gobble festivities.

Christmas before Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone!

I hope you’re all looking forward to stuffing your faces today!  I know I am!

Last night, Jes gave me an early Christmas gift!  It came in a normal-sized Amazon.com box and inside was a smaller box – a kindle fire!  Cool!  I recently considered getting one so that I can get my magazines digitally and get rid of all my print issues to make room for Kumquat and TA-DA!  I got one!

Here are some of my preliminary thoughts after my first night playing with my new toy.

  1. It’s heavier than I expected but much smaller than Jesse’s iPad.
  2. I like the back of the device, which is a soft smooth rubber that makes it easier and more comfortable for me to hold without dropping it.
  3. The screen is glass so I can see that I’ll still need to take my other Kindle on sunny vacations if I want to read outdoors.
  4. The color display and resolution make browsing really easy on the eyes.
  5. The magazine selection is not bad.  I’m just trying to figure out how to get free issues of the magazines I already subscribe to by mail.
  6. Now I can read or browse in the dark when I’m awake in the middle of the night or early morning.
  7. I’ll be able to download children’s books in color for Kumquat to flip through later when he/she is ready.

So far, I like my new toy.  Ryan has one and apparently hates it.  I’m sure there are disadvantages over the iPad but it’s only $199 versus $499!  Thanks for the gift, Jes!  Happy Thanksgiving and Christmas to me!!

More Room to Run

Last night we had a Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner at the Bangs’ new home in Burlingame with smoked turkey and all the fixings.  They finally moved out of their Marina apartment to the ‘burbs into a really cute 3-bedroom house.  We were also treated by a visit by The Dangs who are in town from Maryland to visit family.  It was fun to have everyone together and there were kids everywhere!  The great thing about their house is the HUGE backyard.  Jack and Andersen had a really fun time running around the big tree and on the grass outside.

Congratulations to the Bang, Vyl, and Rowan!!

Lights and Ice

Last night we went out to Embarcadero Center once again for Light-up Night.  We started at Osha Thai for drinks and dinner while the buildings lit up and the fireworks went off.

Then we headed over to the Hyatt where we admired the lights and hung out at the bar for a few more drinks.  Initially I was missing my usual glass of wine but we had so much fun laughing and making fun of each other that I ended up not missing it at all.

The night ended with even more laughs when Matt and Patty decided to put on ice skates at the rink nearby.  Patty’s been taking lessons this past year and Matt was just really pumped about the skating.  So, they strapped on the skates and took a spin.

It was quite a show watching Matt slip and slide around the rink in NOT the most optimal state.

He took a few crazy spills but this morning he reported back with just a sore palm and a raging headache.  I guess this is the beginning of the holiday season and I’m glad that I was able to enjoy it with my friends.

Here are a few more photos.

Epic Hunt for P

On Tuesday evening, I hung out with Jack while his parents went out to dinner.  We started out eating dinner: hamburger for me and cheeseburger for him.  I also got fries and mcnuggets to share.  It’s funny hanging out with a 4-year-old.  You can actually have a conversation and he’s somewhat reliable.  He’s been sleeping upstairs ever since Reese took over his crib but he’s supposed to be sleeping in the big boy bed downstairs soon.  I didn’t know how that was going so I asked him “Are you sleeping in the big boy bed tonight?”  He replied, “No, it’s not Friday.”  I was a little confused so I texted Ryan and he was right.  I guess he only sleeps in the bed on Fridays for now.  Haha.  Cute.

When it was actually time for bed, I told him to brush his teeth.  On our way upstairs, he said, “I need my P.”  That’s the nickname for his pony blanket.  It’s the pony blanket he’s slept with since he was a baby.  So after he brushed his teeth, we went on an epic hunt for P.  After a good 15-minute search upstairs and downstairs, I texted Ryan again (sorry dude) and he said that P2 was stored in Reese’s room.  Aaah…yes!  Thank goodness for the backup pony.  When I handed it to Jack, there was a quick sniff inspection and then it was off to bed.  Mission Accomplished.

Why hello there, Kumquat.

I’m officially 18 weeks preggo today and Kumquat is now 5 1/2 inches long (the size of a pear).  I also finally got the nerve to take (and post) my first belly bump photo.  I have a short torso and wide hips so I’m curious to see how my body is going to accommodate for a growing Kumquat.  I guess you can say I’ve “popped” this week and my belly is now showing whether I want it to or not.  I’ve always been a little weirded out by other people’s pregnant bellies and that holds true with my own.  This weekend my tummy went from squishy to firm and has rounded out.

Here’s what I see from my perspective.  The wide camera angle makes me look HUGE!  Not sure I’m looking forward to the day that I won’t be able to see my feet.

Strangers are also calling me out on my new figure.  Just last week, the cashier at my hospital cafeteria said to me, “I usually get in trouble for this but I’m noticing you’ve got a bump there.”  Also, just last night as Jes and I were picking up snacks and beer for the Pacquiao fight, the cashier asked, “Would you like a bag?”  I said “no, it’s ok” and grabbed the two bags of Ruffles off the counter.  Then he looked at me and said, “OH.  I see why you don’t need a bag.  You’re pregnant.”  What’s that supposed to mean?!  Does he think I’m going to take these out of the store and devour both giant bags of chips on the sidewalk by myself?!  *sigh*  I guess it’s just a sign of more “experiences” headed my way.

By the way, I went shopping with a Gap Friends & Family 40% off coupon today and scored a pair of maternity pants for $11.38 and one of my tops costed $1.78!!!!
