Looooong Weekend

IMG_7401
Peanut’s school was closed on Thursday and Friday, which was butted up against Labor Day weekend so we decided to have a 5-day weekend in Cerritos. Unfortunately, California is going through a crazy heat wave (hotter in SF than Cerritos!) so we didn’t get to do as much as we usually do. Instead, we spent a lot of time indoors at the Magical House and had a couple fancy dinners.

IMG_7411
On Thursday, we had big dinner at Souplantation with almost the whole family on both sides. It was chaotic but we  had a good time.

IMG_7423
On Friday afternoon, we went to Happy Hour with Johnny and Joy for some $1 oysters and some time without the kids. For a change, I didn’t have to share my oysters with KK.

IMG_7431
I also took a short trip to Walmart with just my mom and brother. I had forgotten how easy it is to pick up diapers when you don’t have to carry around a 2-year-old and diaper bag.

IMG_7433
That same night, Jes and I went out for a late 10:00 pm dinner at Osteria Mozza. It was not only later than my bedtime but it was also in LA (on Melrose and Highland to be exact). Fortunately, Jes took a nap and I got some rest before our little outing.

IMG_7434
We ordered smoked mozzarella with prosciutto, grilled octopus, squid ink pasta with crab and uni, and a grilled fish. These are some terrible photos of the dishes but good enough for me to remember.

IMG_7482
On Saturday night, we had a family dinner at one of our favorite places, Lawry’s!! It was fun to have all 4 cousins together with the grandparents. The last time I had dined there was November 2014 (just the two of us for our anniversary). The last time the family dined there together was when KK was September 2013 for my birthday. Crazy.

IMG_7467
This time, we celebrated Jesse’s birthday. KK also got her very own slice of prime rib with the fixings.

IMG_7513
On Sunday, we spent the majority of the day with Jes’ family.

IMG_7540
We had dim sum for lunch, spent the afternoon playing at their house, and then another birthday dinner for Jes.

We left Cerritos yesterday at 7:00 am, made two stops, went outlet shopping for a couple hours, and got home by 5:00 pm. That left us plenty of time to do a load of laundry and play outside with neighbors. What a fun (but very hot) weekend!!

Baby Boy is TWO

DSC_8527
Our little Peanut turned TWO today.

DSC_8549
Time certainly has flown by with this guy.

DSC_8519
This spirited little boy has quite a sense of humor and certainly makes his emotions known. He has no volume control but thankfully holds a tune when he sings. He loves his sister and wants to do everything she does. He also has a mind of his own and tends to say “NO!” to everything first and then says “I want it!” He has learned so much in daycare these past few months and knows his colors, animals, and tons of songs. He can wash his hands and clean up after himself after meals like a big boy too.  He’s a much better sleeper than he used to be and naps like a champ. He frustrates me to no end most mornings but makes it up in big hugs, smooches, and charm.

Happy 2nd, Baby Boy! Love you!

Alameda Residents

IMG_1481

On 3/13/17, we became residents of Alameda. We picked up the keys and Peanut had his first day of daycare.

IMG_1510

On 3/14/17, the moving company came and took all our belongings to the new house. We had dinner at Angel Fish Sushi and then stopped at our new Safeway for some milk and other essential items.

IMG_1564

IMG_1682

My mom came to help watch the kids while we did lots of trips back and forth across the bay to pick up the remaining items. We’ve also had to make a few trips to Target and Home Depot. Best of all, she helped out with getting Peanut ready for school and doing the drop-off/pick-up during the first couple weeks.

IMG_1812

KK has adjusted to her new suburban life and loves it. She comes home afterschool and looks forward to playing outside.

IMG_2327

Her commute to the city everyday with Dada started out a little rough but they’ve figured out the TransBay Bus and Ferry schedules over the past couple weeks. When they’re stuck in traffic on the bus, KK plays some reading games on her iPad. Thankfully the bus has WiFi.

IMG_1984

Most days, they take the Ferry across the bay since it’s more comfortable and a short 25-minute trip versus 45. They also allow you to eat and drink on the ferry and has a bathroom.

IMG_1987

It’s funny that KK is literally the only kid on the boat everyday.

IMG_2016

One of the benefits of this new house is having a greenbelt away from the street and a playground structure right out front. This is the welcome mat that we got from the bank when we closed escrow. Haha.

IMG_2129

While KK is outside playing, we’ve trained Peanut to sit in the doorway while Mama is doing housework.

IMG_2090

KK also made a friend. His name is Gavin and lives next door. He’s turning 5 in May and they may end up in the same Kindergarten class together in the fall!  Here they are playing with the water hose and catching earthworms in the puddles that formed after the rain.

IMG_2111

These two play together everyday. Gavin often rings out doorbell asking if KK can come out and play. It’s pretty hard getting them to come back in for dinner lately. His mom is really nice and has given some insight on the families that live around us. We also help each other watch the kids while they’re outside.

IMG_1777

So far, we’ve enjoyed the Mexican restaurant that is walking distance from the house. They made a pretty good house margarita and their free chips/salsa are tasty.  So far, the carnitas and enchiladas are pretty good!

IMG_1801

My commute takes longer than it used to but it’s nice to know that I am on the same side of the bay as at least one of my kids now. I leave the house between 7:00-7:15 with Peanut, drop him off, and get to work by 8:00. Jes leaves around 8:00 to catch the 8:30 ferry and KK gets dropped off around 9:15 everyday. I get to Peanut’s school after work around 5:15 to pick him up while KK and Jes get on the 5:35pm ferry and get home by 6:15pm.

IMG_1870

Peanut probably had the toughest transition to the new house and schedule.  He still cries at drop off but it only takes 2-3 minutes for him to settle down. His teachers tell us that he enjoys school and only need Boo-Boo for nap time. His naps have also lengthened to about 2 hours everyday.  Unfortunately, he’s totally pooped by the end of the day and barely lasts through an early dinner. Bedtime has been closer to 6:30 or 7:00 now. On our first night in the house, he woke up and cried at least 3 times. Now he sleeps through through the night and can go almost 12 hours!

IMG_0905 1

The past month has been rough and filled with lots of changes but in the end it’s worth it. These two kids have more space to play, their own rooms, and a whole new world to explore. Best of all, they have 13 years of good free public education ahead of them.

Too many changes

Today was definitely a day of changes. First, we finalized our loan and title for the new house. We gave them our down payment and signed a big stack of papers. The purchase will be recorded with the county on Monday morning.

IMG_1303

Second, it was Mirian’s last day with us. In the morning, KK gave Mirian a big hug and Mirian said to her “tell your Mama to take a picture of your new house and send it to me, ok?”

IMG_1312

Andrea and Peanut had their last day together and Mirian got this really cute photo of them together at the playground.

IMG_1313

Third, I had my own goodbye today at work. My long-time PT partner, dear friend, and fellow trouble-maker had her last day as a full-time employee. She accepted a part-time position at Kaiser Oakland and will be returning to work only on Tuesdays. Although I know she will be back once per week, it will be sad to look over at her desk on the other days and see no one (or someone else!) sitting there. At least I know we’ll still see each other outside of work.

IMG_1325

After work, we did our usual meet-up in the garage and we had to say our final goodbye to Mirian. We’ve been blessed to have such a consistent person in our life for both kids. She has taken such good care of them, taught them Spanish, and gave them such fun experiences around the neighborhood. We wish her the best of luck in finding a new family soon.

With so many changes happening at once, it’s hard to really process it all in the moment. We’ll see if I have a meltdown in a couple weeks when it all sinks in.  We get the keys on Monday and the movers come to take our stuff across the Bay on Tuesday. This move is really happening!!!

Disneyland 2016

IMG_4659

We went to Disneyland again on Christmas Eve!

IMG_9928

IMG_9870

I’d have to say that Peanut had the most fun out of all of us. He loves music and everywhere you go in the park there’s something to dance or clap along to.

IMG_2163

IMG_9880

IMG_9882

IMG_9885

We had some really nice weather complete with blue skies and puffy white clouds.

IMG_9900

On this year’s trip, Jes and I got some bits of alone time too. While the kids watched the parade, we used our Fast Passes and went on Indiana Jones and went up the treehouse too. Check out the view from the top!

IMG_0554

KK loves the rocket ship ride and we managed to squish all three of us in one rocket.

IMG_9930

Here’s the view from the ride.

IMG_9948

Disneyland at night is already pretty magical but it’s even more so during Christmas time. This is Sleeping Beauty’s Castle (above) and It’s a Small World (below).

IMG_9965

IMG_9970

At about 8:30 pm, the kids were asleep and my parents were tired. So, we drove them back home, tucked the kids in, and then went back to the park for another two hours to ourselves. We rode all the fast rides and got to walk around without a baby bag or stroller. Ah…I felt so light!

IMG_9974

It was a nice way to end the day at the Merriest Place on Earth.

IMG_9975

Oh and I also got a churro on our way out and I didn’t have to share it with anyone. Yesh!!!

Oahu 2016

IMG_8495

Ah…Hawaii…this year’s trip was just days after Thanksgiving. The flight went as well as it could with a squirmy 15-month-old without his own seat.

IMG_8504

He took two naps and played in the aisle after the meal service was over.

IMG_8534

We hung out with Yoon and the family a lot more this time around. On our first night, they met up with us for dinner so we could borrow their pack-n-play and other essentials.

IMG_8559

I just love staying at the Sheraton Waikiki. It makes those early-morning wake-up calls from the kids so much more bearable. Just look at that sunrise!!!

IMG_8585

The Tsaos were on the same exact trip this time around – including same flights and same hotel. The girls had such a great time together.

IMG_8664

This little guy had the time of his life too. He love the pool, the sand, and even the ocean!

IMG_8921

IMG_8889

These two are my favorites from the trip. The top one will definitely be Christmas-card worthy. The bottom one is gonna get blown up and put up on the wall at home.

IMG_8734

On one of the days, we visited Aulani and the lagoon/beach that is open to the public.

IMG_8759

We found the Stitch statue and the kids had fun wandering the grounds.

IMG_8757

For lunch, we ate at the resort and Janie’s kid’s meal came with an ice cream sundae with Mickey Mouse sprinkles!!

DCIM100GOPRO

We spent a lot of time at our own pool and caught some really sunny days along with a few passing rain clouds too.

DCIM100GOPRO

During this trip, KK conquered her fear of putting her face underwater. By the end of the trip, she was floating around with her ears submerged and playing in the shallow pool without her floaties.

DCIM100GOPRO

IMG_8777

Speaking of poolside, it was nice to have an old friend to hang out with while the kids napped. We had our fair share of mai tais and other rummy drinks.

IMG_9203

IMG_9252

This one was a diy drink compliments of Ranee. It was our last day at the pool and SOMEONE had to help her finish off the rum they had bought at the store.

IMG_8967

Here’s another one of my Mai Tai photos along the way. It included a watermelon-grubbin’ cherub in the background.

IMG_9187We discovered a new pork joint next to Leonard’s. It’s called Kono’s. Their original one is on North Shore and they recently opened one in Waikiki. Jes said it was the best pork sandwich he’s had in a long time.

IMG_9005

The kids ate well on this trip too. Peanut and I went to Marukame Udon three mornings that week to pick up breakfast.

IMG_9087

KK LOVED the Spam musubi and finally started eating the whole thing. In past trips, she would eat the Spam and hand back the rice and seaweed. This time, she would wake up and ask “can I have sushi for breakfast?”

IMG_9260

The girls also had plenty of Baskin-Robbins this week. There’s a store in the hotel and it was the perfect treat for new accomplishments at the pool and in the ocean.

IMG_9659

On our last night in Hawaii, we went on a trolley ride through downtown to see the City Lights.

IMG_9275

It was a fun ride through town with Christmas music blasting along the way.

IMG_8968

I also bought these outfits for the kids at the ABC Store. I couldn’t resist.

IMG_9340

We had another fun vacation at our Hawaii House and it’s always sad to say “see you later”.

IMG_9358

As usual, we said “aloha” to Yoon and Kurt on our way to the airport. We did our drive-by at their office to drop off their stuff and give one last hug.

DCIM100GOPRO

I’m so happy that we were able to continue our annual trip to Hawaii and we made some more memories as a family. This is what keeps me going to work every day.

IMG_9371

P.S. Hawaiian Airlines has a new line of cocktails and this one is pretty dope.

P.S.S. Peanut got compliments on our flight home. WIN!!
