Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Yesterday I went out for all three meals.  With Kumquat being a little more consistent with her naps, I’ve been able to get away for about 2 hours at a time.  My mom was nice enough to be home yesterday to keep an eye on her while I hung out with Brother and Joy.

In the morning, I picked up Brother from the hotel and we drove to Tartine Bakery.  I scored a winner spot right out front and we waited in line for only 10 minutes before it got really long.  I picked up some Morning Buns, a bacon and leek quiche, and a couple coconut macaroons for my mom.  They were all deeelicious.

For lunch, we went to Bangkok Thai for some noodles and it really hit the spot for everyone.

In the evening, I got to go to my first Happy Hour in over a month.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to drink yet but it was nice to be out with friends.

We celebrated Jimmy’s birthday a couple days early at Jones and I had a good time eating and catching up with people.

I actually stayed out for almost 3 hours and got home just in time for Kumquat to wake up.  Nice timing!

A Day of Firsts

Yesterday was a day of firsts.  In the morning, Brother, Joy, and my dad arrived from LA and Kumquat met her uncle and auntie for the first time.

Once she was fed and changed, we took a walk to the Ferry Plaza for lunch.  That meant leaving Kumquat with Jes by himself for about 2 hours.  This was the first time I had left her for a good chunk of time and it was Jes’ first time with her alone for that long too.  I had just enough time to order, eat my lunch, and grab a couple treats before getting a text from Jes: “Where da boob at?” and a photo of Kumquat with a red face.  I hurried home and as I was waiting to cross the street from the Muni platform to my house, I got a second text: “Better double time.” with a photo of her crying.  By the time I walked through the door, she had cried herself to sleep.

In the afternoon, my mom and dad went to dinner with Brother and Joy and it was time for me to try walking the dog with the baby in the stroller at the same time all by myself.  Luckily, the baseball crowd had thinned and Koa was well-behaved.  Phew, it looks like this will be doable after all.

For dinner, Jes and I left the baby with my mom and dad as soon as I fed her.  We went to Hillstone (formerly Houston’s) and I finally got to order my favorite salad: seared ahi tuna with greens, mango, and avocado.  I was so happy to have raw tuna again.  I also got a few bites of Jes rib-eye that was cooked to Medium Rare.  Mmmmm…it’s been so long.  It was particularly good with a few sips of his red wine too.  Oh how I’ve missed you, red wine!  We also had enough time for dessert…key lime pie.  🙂  When we got home, over 2 hours had passed and Kumquat was still sleeping!  Good baby!

Porky Goodness

As most of you know, I love to eat and this magical porchetta sammich is one of my favorite things to eat in SF.  In fact, it’s so yummy that every time my family come up, they head straight for the Ferry Building to get one. Brother and Joy are flying up tomorrow morning and it just happens to be a Thursday, which means it’s Roli Roti for lunch! Woot!

If any of you are wondering what it’s all about, here’s a quick video clip of the infamous tastiness:

Little Janie

In an effort to keep beakatude.com from becoming a baby blog, I created a separate site for all the baby photos I’ve been taking.  I’ve been pressed to send daily photos to the grandparents so this takes care of that need too.  We also didn’t need Jes’ parents to know about all our happy hours and the fatty foods that we consume on a regular basis.  So, here’s the link to Miss Kumquat’s very own photo blog: littlejanie.tumblr.com.  Why that url?  Well, it’s simply because kayleejane was taken already…bah!

But don’t get me wrong!  I’m still a proud mama so there will still be photos of Kumquat on this site too…just not as many. 😉

Outings

This weekend, we had some nice weather and Janie had turned one week old on Friday.  So, it was time to go for a little outing in the fresh air and sunshine.  On Friday night, Jes tried out the infant carrier.  It fits her well and he can now do the Monkey Dance hands-free!  It also allows him to enjoy a tasty beverage too.

On Saturday, we walked down to the Ferry Building/Farmer’s Market and grabbed a yummy porchetta sammich.  Janie hid under the blanket while Jes stuffed his face.  It was a little tricky making sure not to drip any of the porky goodness onto her head.

On Sunday, we used the stroller for the first time.  I took a walk around the ballpark with my mom and Koa while Jes went out for a quick run.  The cup holder came in handy for holding Jes’ water bottle.  We also discovered that Koa is very protective and attentive to the baby when we’re out in public.  He would check back at the stroller every few seconds and was extra defensive whenever another dog approached us.  It’s very sweet but he’s a bigger pain to walk with this set-up.

For dinner on Sunday, we also went out to eat at a restaurant with the baby for the first time.  We chose Public House since it would be spacious and relatively quiet inside.  The baby was asleep the whole time in the stroller and I got some tasty fish and chips.

It was nice to get outside this weekend after spending the first week indoors and the weather was perfect for our first outings.

Happy Birthday, Koa!!!

June 2004

My dear old doggie turned 8 years old (56 dog years!) today.  He’s slowed down a bit and he’s definitely calmer now but overall he’s the same puppy that we picked up from a little ranch in Arroyo Grande eight years ago.

This morning I was up early and so was he so we took a long walk and he got to run off-leash.  I haven’t been able to walk him as frequently as I used to with my ever-growing belly this past month and now with the baby to take care of so this was a treat for me too.

It was a gorgeous morning and it was nice a quiet.  I love walking him before 7 am.  It’s like we have the whole city to ourselves.

Happy 8th Birthday, Dog!  Love you!
