Hangin’ with da Catz

p1030331a.jpg

On Tuesday night, I went over to the Sokol-Juns to babysit Jack. It was probably the easiest gig I’ve ever had. I arrived at 8 pm and the little man was already asleep. So I plopped myself on the couch and the grown-ups left for their night out sans baby. Ryan even gave me ground rules: 1) no boys and 2) no booze. So I watched the Lakers squeak out a win against the Spurs as the cats lounged out on the rug at my feet. I think I heard one little whimper coming from Jack’s room but it was nothin’. His parents got back around 10-ish and they found me in the same exact spot they left me in…and there were no boys.

Teflon-flavored Bananas

Friends came over for a little BBQ today. Jes made his yummy chili-lime wings. I made my guac. Susie brought over the drinks. We made some margaritas. And Ryan almost burned my house down. No, just kidding. He did, however, manage to set my non-stick pan on fire so we got some Teflon-flavored Bananas Foster. Yum. We all still managed to eat every last bit of it and I once again survived another banana-based dish. No gagging this time around but I think it was the ice cream that helped it go down easier.

Once again, little Jack stole the show and he also got to hang out with Koa, Smush, and Señor Fatty DuckDuck.

Here are the photos.

Hangin’ with the Cousins

Pish and Debbie flew up with Katie this weekend so Jes and I met up with them at Ishya and Billy’s house for a little BBQ. It was great to see everyone again and Katie is walking, signing, and eating solids. Wow, time really flies. She was getting over a cold so there was a little more grumpiness this time around but I managed to get a smile or two out of her. The food was great and it was nice to catch up with my uncle and auntie too.

Here are photos of the afternoon.

I just talked to Marie the other night and as we got caught up, she emailed me some photos of Cole and Brandon. My little buddy Cole is such a big boy doing big boy things now while little Brandon is going through his milestones like clockwork. I’ll be in Orange County in a couple of weeks and can’t wait to just hang out with Marie and the boys just like old times. I miss you guys!!

Sunday Meatloaf

Last night we had our Sunday Whitey Supper and it was Ryan’s turn to cook. So, we had meatloaf!! He also made mashed sweet potato, cooked spinach, and white bread with butter. The dinner was topped off with some Strawberry White Zinfandel. Awesome. Jack also joined us at the table with wooden spoon in hand and a hearty appetite.

He’s growing so fast and the Yankees hat that I bought for him in NYC was a perfect fit with a little room to grow.  And look at those chubby thighs!!  Makes me want to eat them!

I took some photos of the evening. Enjoy!

Sunday Supper

Sunday evenings are probably my least favorite part of the week. The anticipation of having to go back to work on Monday is not a fun experience. Luckily, we’ve been able to distract ourselves by cooking a big supper with friends just about every other week. So far, we’ve been into a very “whitey” theme. It was pot roast one night, then corned beef and cabbage, and now beef stew tonight. It’s sort of a challenge that we have going with Ryan and Michelle to see who can “out-white” the other. I’m looking forward to the possibility of meatloaf or chicken pot pie one of these Sundays. Yum yum!

Anyway, this evening, we went over to the Sokol-Juns a little earlier than usual so that Jes could make a big fat mess in their kitchen instead of ours. That was a total win on our part. Ryan also made his first attempt at a chocolate and peanut butter soufflé, which I enjoyed. Meanwhile, Jack got to eat his oatmeal with molasses and got some of our mashed potato at the dinner table. He’s such a funny little guy who LOVES to eat already at just 5 months of age. He’s probably the happiest and most enthusiastic when there’s food coming at him. It was a lot of fun to watch a normal kid learning to eat. I need to to videotape him one of these days to use as a training video for the parents I work with.
