Halloween Saturday

It’s not Halloween yet but a lot of the celebrating was happening on Saturday.  In the morning, we headed down to Band and Vyl’s house to go to the Halloween Party and Parade that was happening down the street.  I invited Ranee to come too and we were given quite a surprise when they showed up with Sophie dressed in the same elephant costume that we got for Kumquat.  Awesome!!!  They were so cute together.

I wore my tiger costume from a few years back and Ranee and Jamie dressed as peanuts.  Very clever.

Rowan dressed up as a doggie but he didn’t like wearing the hood.

There was trick-or-treating along the main street with all the stores.  We didn’t actually pick up any candy but we did go inside the Apple Store and Kumquat was given a magnet with the Apple logo on it.

For brunch, we went to Stacks and Kumquat got to sit in a highchair for the first time.  I think she liked watching Rowan and all his hijinks that morning.

Later in the evening, we drove over the bridge to Downtown Oakland to meet up with Mai and Ranee.  We tried going to Make Westing but their liquor license didn’t allow babies.  So we went across the street to Rudy’s Can’t Fail Cafe and sat out on the patio for drinks and food.  It also happened to be on the Hella-ween 5-mile race route.  So we watched the runners go by and our witches stopped to take a photo with us.  Once they finished, they joined us for some more drinks and food and lots of laughs.

Reese is Two!

Today is Reese’s 2nd birthday!  Happy Birthday, Big Girl!

On Sunday morning, we went to Yerba Buena Gardens Children’s Playground for her party.  The playground is really nice and it’s next to the carousel, which Reese loved.  We got there too late for a ride but was there to play at the playground and even got story time too.

It was a beautiful sunny day and perfect for a little party.

We brought Koa along too but he was kicked out because apparently dogs aren’t allowed on the grounds.  Bummer.

It was fun to watch all the kids play and Kumquat loved being out there watching all the activity.

Reese is allergic to eggs and has only eaten vegan cake up until now but on this birthday, she tried her first real cake made with one egg in the recipe.  She ate it all up and had frosting all over her face for the rest of the day.

During lunch, the kids played in the grassy area nearby.  Can’t wait to see Kumquat running around with everyone.

Reese spent her afternoon picking little flowers and running around with her brother with only one shoe on.  Sometimes I miss the carefree days of being a kid.

Happy 2nd Birthday, Reesie!

McWino Playdate

On the evening of my birthday, we had our annual McWino Night (Chicken McNuggets, fries, and of course wine) and this time we had two little monkeys to entertain us.

Sophie charmed us with her little tricks and Kumquat ended up falling asleep in Tia Patty’s arms by the end of the night.

Here’s a group photo of us at the end of the night.  Too bad Kumquat was asleep already because she missed out on the photo op.  Thanks for coming over, Ladies!  It was another awesome McWino Night for the books.

Wine Tasting in Livermore

On Saturday we took BART to Livermore to do some wine tasting.  It was a belated birthday celebration for Steph and Nicole, whose bdays were in August.

Michelle and Matt met up with us at Steph’s house and we went to two different wineries just on the other side of the freeway.  The first one was called Boa Ventura de Caires, which had 7 different reds to try. Kumquat wanted to try the wine but we only let her sniff it.  😉  They also had a bocce ball court so we played boys vs. girls and the girls ended up winning in the end.

Here’s a family photo that Stephanie had taken.  Thanks, Steph!

The second winery was called Bent Creek Winery and they gave us a free tasting.  Yes!  We sat out on the patio and enjoyed another 7 different wines.

Afterward we stopped at BevMo for their 5-cent wine sale.  Jes and I didn’t buy any wine but picked up some smoked mozzarella.

For dinner, we headed back to Steph’s house and we all hung out in their backyard.  It was so nice and warm out and I felt like we were back in Orange County.

Steph cooked us a big dinner and we spent the rest of the evening making fun of each other and playing Imaginiff.

It was a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon and evening.  We should go to Livermore more often.  The wineries are small and casual and tastings are only $0-10/person.  What fun!

Zoe!

Congratulations to Eleen and Jimmy on their new arrival!  Her name is Zoe and she was born on the evening of September 4th.  She weighed 6 lbs, 3 oz and measured 19.29 inches.

They’re home now so we went to visit them this afternoon.  Eleen’s looking great and Jimmy is dealing with his weak stomach for poop and all other bodily fluids.  We even witnessed his first super poopy diaper change, which was pretty entertaining.  I got some photos but I’ll spare you all the grossness.

Kumquat also met her new little playmate and seeing them next to each other made me realize how much she’s grown.

Congratulations, you two!  Enjoy your new adventure together!

Exploratorium

On Friday evening (9/7), we went to the Exploratorium for a corporate event.  We got in free with Jes’ badge and brought in the Sokol-Juns too.  The place was packed and since it was a corporate-sponsored event they had some free sandwiches (really small ones) on the floor level and free wine/beer upstairs. Woo!

It was interesting for me and Jes but Kumquat was way too young for most of the exhibits but she still enjoyed all the lights and sounds.  This is a model of “Curiosity” the Mars rover that’s up in space right now. Looked like Kumquat was curious herself and I couldn’t get her attention for this photo.

It was fun to hang out with the Sokol-Juns that night and it looks like Jack and Reese had a good time.
