Spa Day

Last June I purchased a Groupon for Teresa for her birthday.  Now that I’m no longer preggo and it’s 2 weeks from her wedding, we thought it would be the perfect time to redeem!  It was a Groupon for a 50-minute pedicure and 30-minute massage at I-Spa at the Intercontinental Hotel for $65 per person.  It’s a pretty fancy spa and this Groupon turned out to be an awesome deal.

Before our first appointment, we met up at Luce for brunch at 11:00 am.  I had the smoked salmon eggs benedict and it was delicious…especially because I wasn’t allowed to have smoked salmon for 9 months.  We also got mimosas and that was equally tasty.

At 12:30 pm, we headed upstairs to the spa and they gave us robes, slippers, and complimentary champange.  Yes!  The pedicure at 1:00 was so nice and now my toes are ready for my role as bridesmaid in two weeks.  We then had about an hour to just sit and relax.  The massage was at 3:00 pm and the lady got all the kinks out of my neck and shoulders.  Aaah…so nice.

That was such a fun day and it was the first time I had been away from Kumquat for so long – 6 hours!!  My mom also went shopping at the mall so Jes was on Kumquat duty including a bottle feeding.  Looked like it wasn’t so bad so it was a super win for me!

My First Mother’s Day

I had a very special Mother’s Day this year.  It was my first Mother’s Day as a mom and my mom was also around to celebrate with me.  The morning started out with the usual feeding and diaper routine and luckily Kumquat was on her best behavior that morning.  By 9:30, my mom and I were out the door and Jes was on his own for a couple hours.  That morning, I took my mom to Tiptoes for a pedicure and it was pretty busy at the 10:00 hour.

The pedicure was nice and the experience was even better with my trashy celebrity mag and a couple sips of the complimentary mimosa that they gave me.  Aaaah…  We also had enough time afterward to swing by Sports Basement to buy my mom a North Face rain jacket.

After feeding Kumquat again at home, I left the house again and met up with Michelle and Vyl at Bluestem Brasserie for a bite to eat and some girl time.  It was nice to catch up with friends and I was able to stay out for at least 2 hours before Kumquat woke up again.  Nice!

For dinner, Jes and I took my mom to Hillstone (again!) for a yummy steak dinner.  They each had a grilled rib eye and I had prime rib cooked to a tasty Medium Rare.  We also got to order the smoked salmon, which we hadn’t had since before I was pregnant.  We brought Kumquat along to dinner and she slept through the whole meal and didn’t wake until we got home.

I gotta say that I had a wonderful 1st Mother’s Day.

Here are two photos that my dad sent me last week.

It’s a photo of my mom holding me when I was born and then one of my mom holding Kumquat 36 years later.  Thank goodness my baby is so much cuter than I was as a baby.  Happy Mother’s Day, Mommy.  You’re the best!

Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

Yesterday I went out for all three meals.  With Kumquat being a little more consistent with her naps, I’ve been able to get away for about 2 hours at a time.  My mom was nice enough to be home yesterday to keep an eye on her while I hung out with Brother and Joy.

In the morning, I picked up Brother from the hotel and we drove to Tartine Bakery.  I scored a winner spot right out front and we waited in line for only 10 minutes before it got really long.  I picked up some Morning Buns, a bacon and leek quiche, and a couple coconut macaroons for my mom.  They were all deeelicious.

For lunch, we went to Bangkok Thai for some noodles and it really hit the spot for everyone.

In the evening, I got to go to my first Happy Hour in over a month.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to drink yet but it was nice to be out with friends.

We celebrated Jimmy’s birthday a couple days early at Jones and I had a good time eating and catching up with people.

I actually stayed out for almost 3 hours and got home just in time for Kumquat to wake up.  Nice timing!

First 24 hours

Janie is now a day old and it’s been pretty surreal.  Yesterday was quite a day filled with pain, joy, and amazement.  At just a few hours of life outside of the womb, our baby girl was alert, looking around, and eating like a champ.  This video was taken when she was about 7 hours old.

She’s also quite the pooper and Jes is now the official diaper changer.

My mom was the first person (besides us of course) to meet Janie and she watched the entire birthing process.  She’s a brave woman…I’m not sure I would even be able to do that.

Jes’ parents also drove up as soon as we told them I was in labor and they were so excited to meet their granddaughter.

Victor and Susie came by later in the evening and Victor was brave enough to hold her.  Susie was also very sweet to send us flowers, which arrived while I was in labor.  Unfortunately, the card only had a phone number on it so we had no idea who it was from until they arrived.  Thanks for flowers, Susie!

Last night was interesting.  I had no concept of time and she kept me up every hour.  It didn’t actually bother me since I had already been trained over the past few months for that.  We did, however, get a good 2-hour chunk of sleep together, which was enough for me.

This morning, she had her hearing test and passed with flying colors.  Check out the cool headphones.

She was also in a particularly good mood and she got some play time with her dad.

Tia Patty and Auntie Teresa also came by to visit today.  They were here to see her turn a day old.  Yay!  Thanks for stopping by!

Cleaning and Catching Up

This week has been all about cleaning up the house (like dusting the bookshelves in the corner that never get any attention) and catching up with friends.  Now that I’m 12 days away from my due date I’m not supposed to travel too far from home.

On Tuesday morning, I met up with Elaine.  She was brave enough to meet me in the city by driving to Millbrae BART Station (from Sunnyvale) and then taking BART to Powell Station where I found her.  We had a snack and some coffee while we chatted before I had to go to my doctor’s appointment.  It’s so nice to have an old friend around.  We’ve known each other since 2002 and we both got married the same year.  Wow, that was 10 years ago!  Happy 10th Friendship Anniversary, Elaine!!  🙂  Thanks for coming all the way up to see me!!!

On Wednesday, I drove across the bridge to Oakland.  I stopped at Target to buy some cleaning supplies and then Babies R Us to return some duplicate gifts that I received.  Then it was off to Genova Deli where I met up with Teresa and Steph for lunch.  It was like our usual Thursday lunch except it was a Wednesday and Nicole and Patty were too sick to come out that day.  Although we only hung out for about 40 minutes it was nice to just hang out with friends again.  I miss them.

I also stopped at the local children’s store next to the deli.  Turns out they have used clothes for sale in the back.  I bought Kumquat a little 3-month outfit: a cute Old Navy white knitted sweater for $8 and a pair of Old Navy jeans for $6.  They also buy your used clothes for 50% of what they think they can sell your items for in the store.  Good to know for later when it’s time to purge again.

Later that afternoon, I got a manicure and pedicure at the place down the street from home.  Let’s just say it was time to clean up my fingers and toes too.  I had always wanted to take advantage of mid-day/mid-week specials and I totally did because I finally could!

Last night, Patty texted me and we also got caught up on things.  I love iMessage!  Free text messaging is always a good thing.

This morning I also got a photo from Steph.  It was a photo of her Greasy Food Friday breakfast.  For as long as I can remember, the two of us have been going to the cafeteria on Fridays to get a tasty breakfast like a pancake and sausage patty or an egg sandwich with bacon.  Yum.  She sent me a photo last Friday and was right on time this morning too!  I think I’m going to have to keep Friday mornings sacred for her.  I ended up making an egg sandwich with ham today.

OK. This was a random post.  Just thought I’d keep you all updated on my day-to-day activities while Kumquat is still cookin’.  Jesse has the day off today so I’ve have some company today. Yay! Have a nice Friday!

I’m a Bridesmaid!

My dear friend Teresa is getting married in June and I’m in her wedding!  Yay!  As her big day approaches, there’s been a lot going on.  On Saturday, I met up with T, her mom, and the maid of honor for her gown fitting and got a preview of her wedding dress and veil.  She looked so lovely and we were all very excited for her.  I’m not going to give away her dress but here are her shoes.  They’re going to get dyed deep purple like my dress.

Here is the dress I chose out of the 6 silk chiffon J. Crew options.  I had to guess my dress size since trying them on with this big ol’ belly wasn’t going to work.  Hopefully, I’ll be able to fit this thing after Kumquat arrives.

On Sunday, Jes and I went to Teresa and Aaron’s Wedding Shower that took place at Aaron’s dad’s church.  Yep, she’s marrying a Pastor’s Kid (PK) just like I did.  We attended Sunday service at 10 am, went for a little coffee break and walk around the neighborhood afterward, and then attended their wedding shower at 1 pm.  We hung out with Teresa’s folks who are pretty cool and we met some of the others in the wedding party too.

The wedding will be in Santa Cruz and should be fun!!  I also get to buy Kumquat a little purple dress too!  Yippee!
