A Day with My Bike

p1030001.jpg

I went for a bike ride with some friends to Sausalito. At 9:30 am, Ryan was waiting downstairs for me and we took off. I was a little shaky at first since I hadn’t ridden my bike in over a year so the clips, gears, and I all had to get reacquainted. We rode along The Embarcadero, through Fisherman’s Wharf, through Fort Mason, and over to the Bangs’ in the Marina. Then we rode up to the Golden Gate Bridge where there was a steep climb to the start of the bridge and then it was smooth sailing over the bridge. It was a beautiful day in SF with the sun shining and slightly cooler temps than yesterday.

Once we got over the bridge, we rode down the hill to Sausalito. It was ALL downhill and I was going superfast…scary fast. At the Sausalito Ferry Station, we met up with Michelle, Jack, and Amy and then headed over to Fred’s Coffee Shop for some brunch. They believe in table sharing so the 6 of us had to share a round table with a pair of two annoying fellas. Fortunately for us, they sat down towards the end of our meal and I had a fantastic meal of pancakes, sausage, and hashbrowns. It was just enough fuel for the ride back.

On our way back through town, I lost my footing while trying to make a curb stop and bailed in the street. It wasn’t my most graceful moment and I guess it’s not a successful riding day if you don’t come home with a little road rash on your knee. At least I wasn’t the only one. Bang actually bailed earlier on our way to brunch and he suffered a harder fall and a bigger boo-boo on his knee. After almost deciding to take the ferry back to the city, I mustered up enough energy and motivation to get myself back up the hill to the bridge. It was a long climb and I made it – bloody knee and all.

Once we got back to SF, the Bangs went home and Ryan and I took off for a second adventure. We rode through the Presidio (yes, more hills) and over to Michelle’s friend’s house in the Richmond District to pick up the car they had been borrowing. That’s where I got a taste of city riding with having to stop at traffic lights and watching for cars. At about 2:30 pm, Ryan and I logged a total of 20 miles and we were exhausted. Taking the car ride home was awesome.

Snowy Fun

What a great weekend! Our trip to Utah went smoothly and we had an awesome time on the slopes. It really was probably the best resort I’ve been to so far and we didn’t even have a powder day! On our second day, we took the tunnel to the sunny/back side and I was just so amazed at how beautiful and spacious the area was. I also demo’d a pair of skis on Saturday, which let me carve and turn better than ever. It might be time for a new pair of skis!

At the end of the day, we had some beer and watched UCLA barely squeak past the second round. I think our waiter was a little high and absent-minded but the food was yummy. I Yelped all the places we tried this weekend so go here for my reviews.  Here are just a few of my photos of our weekend.

We’re back in SF now and Koa seemed to survive his weekend home alone. Hooray for dog walkers!

snowbird makes me smile

p1010769a.jpgWe just finished our first day at Snowbird and it was FAAAANTASTIC. The temps were reasonable. The wind was mild (except at the top), and the snow conditions were great for most of the park. It even snowed with the sun shining bright during lunch as we ate out on the picnic table.

We also managed to figure out the public transit system. For $6.50, you can get a roundtrip ride up and down the mountain. The only tricky part was figuring out the one transfer that we needed to take on our way home. It was easy enough once we asked around and we made it back without having drag our gear around for more than a few feet. You really can’t beat door-to-door service.

Tomorrow will be Round Two and should be just as fun. We bought a Two-Day Pass for $105, which is such a deal compared to Tahoe and Mammoth. Not only are the tickets cheap but the mountain is huge, the snow is awesome, and each run takes 3 times as long as any run in California.

7 hours

We thought about going for a half-day at Sierra yesterday but with the snow falling pretty hard and a long drive ahead of us, we decided to head home instead.  We left the house at 10:30 am and didn’t get home until 5:30 pm.  Phew!  It was a long one.  We did, however, luck out on not having to put chains on and made a couple stops along the way.

The dogs held up quite well in the car with Smush sleeping in Susie’s lap and Koa changing positions every time the car changed direction or speed.

Here are photos from the weekend.  Can’t wait to head back for another day on the slopes!

We’re back, Baby!

p1010293.jpgWe drove up to Tahoe with The Masayas last night and just finished another awesome day on the slopes. I managed to find a small 2-bedroom house in South Tahoe and we played at Kirkwood today. It started out with blue skies and a little wind. By the afternoon, it started to snow and the wind picked up. Regardless, it was great to be about there again. We had a dry season last year so it’s been about 2 years since we last visited ol’ Kirkwood. It’s still snowing as we speak so it looks like we may be going to another mountain tomorrow. We’ll just have to figure out what to do with the pups since check-out is at 10 am. Hopefully our creaking bones will be snow-ready tomorrow morning.

Let the season begin!

Today was my first day back on the slopes and it was oh so wonderful! We took a day trip to Sugar Bowl, which is conveniently located right off I-80 and has plenty of runs to explore. There was a light snow shower in the morning, which helped soften the terrain and made for a fun day in the snow. Since Baby Jack was at Grandma’s House today, both Ryan and Michelle were able to join me and The Bangs. We arrived at 8:45 and were on our first run by 9:30.  It continued to snow through the morning but without any wind, it was pretty nice.  The sun came out by lunchtime so we got a little of both.  My ski legs were toasty by the end of the day but I managed to follow the boys through the trees on our last run. The snow storm from last week really got the season kicked off well and I hope that Mother Nature keeps the white stuff coming.

Here are photos from today.
