Who let stinky into the hamster party?

This morning I went to the gym. I usually hate running on a treadmill but I felt pretty good today. Perhaps it was the novelty of it again or my music was helping pass the time. Unfortunately, 25 minutes into my run, a very stinky man started on the treadmill right next to me. Nevermind that there were several empty ones all along the row. Why did he have to set-up camp right next to me? This was going to suck but I said to myself, “I only have 5 more minutes. I’ll just power through and breathe through my mouth.” Well, I just have to say that it was disgusting…so bad that everyone around him started to get off their treadmills and move to another machine. With just one minute into it, I had to move too. It almost made me nauseous. It’s one thing to have to run on a hamster wheel for 30 minutes but to endure the stinkiness from the fat hamster next to me was just too much for me today. I actually pushed “STOP” on my treadmill and moved 10 treadmills over to finish my run. I ended up going an extra 10 minutes just because I was so annoyed.

“Slow and steady”, said the turtle.

I’m back on the road and running again. With my back feeling better, I’m ready to start training again but this time I’m going to go slow and work on strengthening my core strength as well. I just have to say that waddling around for 3 weeks with excrutiating back pain is not cool. Anyway, I’ve been taking it easy and starting from square one. I started with a 1-mile loop the other day and gradually added distance each day. I’m on my third day in a row and I’m up to 2 miles and finished it under 20 minutes…I’ve still got it! I just wished that the weather was cooler. I HATE running in the heat but I HATE treadmills even more. At least I’ll get a nice summer tan. 🙂

A PR at PCRF

This morning I ran the “Reaching for the Cure” 5K/10K, which benefits Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (PCRF). It was held just a stone’s throw from my house. Local races totally rock. Jes and Johnny came along and we met up with our next door neighbors too. It was a little chilly and very cloudy but it was perfect running weather.

It’s been a long time since I raced a 5K and it was so much fun! I even managed to finish 3.1 miles in 27:42. That’s an official personal record (or “PR” for you running junkies out there) for me. Johnny and Jes also finished under 30 minutes, which is just as awesome.

Afterwards we hung out at the post-race expo to get some free coffee, fruit, baguettes, massages, and rock climbing. What fun! Here are the photos.

Mellow Day

It’s officially my last few hours of Spring Break. *sigh* What to do?! I guess I can say that it was nice to have the week off. I was kinda productive, yet I’m not sure where all the time went. Fortunately I had a pretty mellow Sunday.
In the morning I dragged the husband, brother, and dog to the river bed for a 3-mile jog. Since it rained the night before, there was plenty of flowing water in the river and a few ducks and birds to see. Once we got home, we had breakfast and watched a little TV. Then we went to the mall to buy some new livingroom furniture to replace the set that we gave to Johnny. The rest of the afternoon was spent lazying around and going to the dog park. I thought it was a pleasant way to end my Spring Break. I’m just dreading all the work I have to do tomorrow. I didn’t do a lick of work this week. I’m gonna get my butt kicked this coming week.

sittin’ all day

Luckily I went for a run this morning because I pretty much made a dent in the couch from sitting in the same spot all day. Dayantha also made his own dent on the other couch too since he spent the day with me at home. He was doing research on rentals in Hawaii for our August trip and I finished Holly’s invitation (my first official Photoshop CS2 project!). I think the only time we got up was to have some lunch. What a great way to spend my last day of Spring Break. Oh yeah, I ran a 30:05 5K today…I’m getting close!

Moonlighting

My first real OT job was at PTN and somehow I can’t seem to shake them. It’s been almost 2 years since I officially left and they seem to keep reeling me back in. Just last month I did some moonlighting and accrued about 12 hours doing two assessments for my boss. I’m also running Camp again for the 4th summer in a row, which will bring in August income. Since I’m off this week, I thought I’d log some hours in Torrance and carpooled with my old Irvine carpool friend just like old times. It’s so nice to go back once in a while. Since I started Irvine, I’ve been lacking the constant mentorship and support that I was so accustomed to. Whenever I go back I get refueled and bombarded with a new outlook on my at-the-moment crummy job. I guess it’s good to know that I’ll always have a job to fall back on if I decide that IUSD is not for me.

On a side note…I still got home in time to get in a 3-miler with the dog. I feel like I’m getting my legs back and the dog is doing rather well himself. I also convinced the brother to sign up for the 5K that Jes and I are running in May. Hopefully training for it will be a good distraction and outlet for him. We may try some surfing lessons together too…maybe.
