Let’s just get this over with!

The Nike Women’s Marathon is 4 days away and I’m getting a little anxious. I’ve trained. I’ve done this before. I’m even eating bananas! And I’m still anxious! All I know is that I need to mentally prepare for a 5-hour jog. I’m just happy to know that I’ll have friends to run with for the first 13 miles and that I’ll have friends and family cheering for me along the route. I guess the nice little Tiffany & Co. finisher’s necklace isn’t bad either. 😉
Let’s change subjects. I started a new photoblog today. I’ve been thinking about learning PHP so I can build my very own but then I found this site. It’s a neat concept…I just don’t know if any of my photos are worth showcasing in this format. It seems that just posting them on the blog I already have is enough. I suppose the coolest thing about a photoblog is that it will allow me to categorize my photos for easier searching and viewing. That’s all I can think of at the moment.

Bananas are yucky.

This weekend was quiet and uneventful. Even the dog looked a little depressed or at least frustrated with all the inactivity. After a few days of having a cold, I managed to get in one last 6-mile run on Saturday morning and Koa got to run at the dog park today. Jesse made gnocchi and enough lasagna to last us a week and we had the neighbors over tonight for some drinks. Not much happened this weekend but it was a nice change after a month of birthday hoopla.
In other news…I have been defeated by the banana this week. Last weekend I bought a bunch of 4 small bananas and made a goal for myself to eat all four of them by Friday. Well, it’s Sunday and there are two left. I hate bananas. They make my throat and lips itchy. They’re mushy and have a strong scent that stays in the room for hours (especially if it’s in an open trash can). Jesse says they’re the “perfect food” because they have lots of vitamins and are especially beneficial to athletes. I’m not much of an athlete and I just think they suck. I have two more to go this week. Time to power through!!

Amtrack Century 2005

Jesse, Jimmy, and Pish finished their first Century today. They rode their bicycles from Irvine down to San Diego in 7.5 hours including 4 rest stops and 1 flat tire. The day started really early – waking up at 5:30, leaving the house by 6:30 and starting at 7:00.
They also had their own personal SAG (Support and Gear) along the ride too. Debbie, Eleen, and I had three cars and we followed each other down – partly alongside them on the bike route and also met up with them at each rest stop. The girls rode in the cars with cell phones, GPS, maps, the route list, and walkie talkies, which really helped!! We even got an emergency call from Jes when he got a flat tire. They called and said, “we’re on the corner of Carlsbad and Beech, can you meet us there?” We punched in the streets, found them, and brought out the bike pump. Who needs the official SAG when the unofficial SAG rocks?!
It was also a big family affair with Pish’s parents and Debbie’s parents along the way with Debbie’s brother and kids at one cheering stop. We also had dinner at Debbie’s brother’s house in San Marcos afterwards. Overall, they looked really strong out there and conquered the hill at Torrey Pines. The weather was nice, they had a view of the beach every once in a while, and had lots of people to take photos, cheer, and embarrass them throughout the day.
Fun day. Great job, boys!! What’s next?

That was rough.

I ran 18 miles today. It took me a little over 3 hours. The weather started out great – overcast and breezy – just perfect for running. However, when 10:00 rolled around, the sun came out and it got hot! The last 2 miles were really rough. My legs ached, my hips hurt, and my feet were burning. I’m just glad I made it home in one piece. I was so tempted by mile-17 to stick my thumb out for a ride home. Now it’s time for a nap.

Strong work, boys!

This morning, Jesse, Jimmy, Pish, and Jay finished their first metric century, which is 100 km or 62 miles. The event was called the Cool Breeze Century and it started in Ventura, went up to Santa Barbara, and back to Ventura. While the boys rode, Eleen, Debbie, and I drove behind them, in front of them, stopped for some luch, met them at rest stops, and took lots of photos and video. We didn’t know where to start or how to get around with the lousy directions without a map so we hopped into my car that had GPS. The hills looked rather brutal but the boys performed well.
Afterwards, Jes and I went to my parents’ house for my dad’s 61st birthday party. Man, each time I go to one of these things, there seems to be more and more people I don’t know showing up. Each person brought a Thai dish or dessert and someone even brought Thai karaoke. I was so stuffed by the end of the night. They sure do know how to throw a BBQ! Happy Birthday, Daddy!

Are you ready to go?

Camp is all done. Closing ceremony made me cry again and moving day was the fastest ever! I’m still sick, a little sad about leaving camp, but looking forward to my 2 weeks off.
We’re at La Quinta Inn and getting ready for Jes’ metric century ride. The bike is pumped, the boys are in their rooms, and Jes is a little sick. They’re meeting in the lounge at 7:30 and roll-off is at 8 am. Woohoo!!
