Let it snow…

Did I mention how awesome this season has been? Well, I’ll say it again, IT ROCKS! I went to Snow Summit this past long weekend and the conditions were really nice. Not too shabby for a local mountain. Anyway, we had plans of getting there by 8:30 when it opened and ski until 1:00 to get a $14 voucher to come back another day. Well, that didn’t happen…not even close. Instead, we got up late. Didn’t leave the house until about 7:30. We finally started up the mountain at 9:00 to find CHP checkpoint telling us that even though we had a 4WD car, we needed to carry chains in the car. Yikes! So we drove back down the mountain to buy chains. We checked Wal-Mart – no luck. We checked the Chevron that had a sign outside saying “WE HAVE CHAINS” – not for us. Before we gave up and went home, we checked a Shell station where we got gas earlier and they had chains for our tires!! WOOHOO! Back up the mountain we went. We got past the checkpoint with chains in hand, drove up the icy roads (pretty cool), and had lunch at Denny’s at 11:30. Hm…could we still have a fun-filled ski day?! The answer is yes-a-rootie! We got to Snow Summit just in time for the start of their half-day rate. Signed our lives away for a $10 discount and went up for only $29 each. Sweet! The snow was awesome; the runs were empty; and Jes had one of his strongest days!! On top of that, Koa had come with us and got to play in the snow after we put away our equipment at the end of the day. By the way, it was still dumping snow on our way home.

blah…

I don’t get it. Each afternoon in the car as I drive home from work, I’m psyched up to take a long run around the neighborhood. But as soon as I walk into the house to find the doggie wagging his tail at me and the husband on the couch, the motivation…poof!..disappears. Home is so comfy. Why would I want to change into tight-fitting running clothes and go back out into the cold when I could be sitting around in my PJs at 4 in the afternoon ? Call it having no will-power, call it laziness…all I know is that I can’t break out of it. I was doing so well last month with at least 3 workouts per week! Now I’m down to zero for the week with no “energy” to do any different. What is a lazy, unmotivated girl to do?

buddies once again

Jesse and I went to Mammoth this weekend while Koa stayed with Patty. He got a fun-filled weekend of romping around with his half-brother Mochi. I was a bit worried when Mochi came over during Christmas and wanted nothing to do with him. Fortunately, they’re back in the game and have been buddies all weekend.
In other news…the snow in Mammoth was great and skiing was fun! Going on Sunday is so much better than Saturday – no long lines and lots of empty runs!! Towards the end of the day, I got the courage to take a couple of baby jumps and got some air! I’m not quite ready for the terrain park but I can jump little mounds and moguls! Lookout Johnny Mosley!
Valentine’s Day was spent on the road driving home but we got a nice dinner at The Chart House in Mammoth. Their lobster bisque, dynamite mahi, and MUD PIE were very yummy.

Poor Conditions, Great Trip

Jes and I went to Snow Valley today with Jimmy and had a great time. Jimmy picked us up in his new Subie WRX (a very cool car) at 6-ish. We got there early enough to get a good parking spot and the mountain was slick and scratchy. After lunch, it got softer and more powdery. Although the conditions were not ideal (falling down wasn’t very pleasant), we still had a great time. Jes took his leisurely pace and my new skis were pretty fast. Jimmy hardly fell and got better and better as the day went on. The mountain is pretty small but it’s only 70 miles from home! That meant we were back this afternoon with enough time to take a long 4-hour nap before dinner. Oh yeah, I also had my first taste of McDonald’s in over a year. My half of the Big Mac, fries, and Coke was bliss.

Happy Groundhog Day!

Punxsutawney Phil came out and saw his shadow this morning. That means 6 more weeks of winter and I love it! Hopefully that will mean more snow and a longer ski season. We need more snow in the local mountains here…pray for snow. We’re going to Snow Valley this weekend with Jimmy and I get to try out my new skis. We stopped a really cool outlet place in Bishop where I got a pair of last-season skis with bindings for only $239. What a deal! Now I don’t have to make everyone else wait as I rent my skis like an amateur. It’s straight to the lift on Saturday, baby!

A gas station!!

I went to Mammoth for the first time this weekend. Jes and I brought my brother; and Debbie (my cousin-in-law) met up with us on the mountain too. The snow conditions were great and we got in a full day of skiing/snowboarding. We also got to try out my new toy…a new BMW X3! Yup, we ordered it a week ago and it got delivered just in time on Friday evening for us to take it up to Mammoth. It was sweeeeeet. There was snow and ice on the road and it handled it just fine. The only near disaster we encountered this weekend was on our way back. We miscalculated the gas station locations and almost ran out of gas in the middle of the desert. The trip computer even said that we had zero miles left on our gas tank but we had enough fumes to go around a mountain to a small gas station that was actually for dirt bikes. Phew! I was totally getting ready to call for roadside assistance and sit for 2 hours.

We salute you, Jawbone!
