Happy Birthday, Koa!!!

June 2004

My dear old doggie turned 8 years old (56 dog years!) today.  He’s slowed down a bit and he’s definitely calmer now but overall he’s the same puppy that we picked up from a little ranch in Arroyo Grande eight years ago.

This morning I was up early and so was he so we took a long walk and he got to run off-leash.  I haven’t been able to walk him as frequently as I used to with my ever-growing belly this past month and now with the baby to take care of so this was a treat for me too.

It was a gorgeous morning and it was nice a quiet.  I love walking him before 7 am.  It’s like we have the whole city to ourselves.

Happy 8th Birthday, Dog!  Love you!

We’re Stokke’d.

Over the weekend, Jes went to Vegas to visit Kevin and his girls.  The last time I saw them, they had just turned two.  Now they’re four and rambunctious as ever.  Jesse spent Chinese New Year with them and got to eat some tasty traditional Chinese food that is made every year by Kevin and his family.  While he was there, he also had a taste of babysitting twin girls.

At one point, they were at the Venetian where Jes was stuck watching the two girls while Kevin and Karrie took care of some business.  Sounded like he had his hands full.

When Jes got back on Tuesday, he handed me a box from the store Janie and Jack.  Inside was the cutest little sailor outfit complete with a matching hat.  It’s so appropriate for Daddy’s little girl.  I’m sure Jes was thinking, “Now if only I had a boat.”

On Wednesday, I came home to find a huge box at my door.  It contained the Stokke Xplory stroller that Kevin and Karrie so generously handed down to us.  It’s a tank of a stroller that can be changed from back-facing to front-facing.  Unfortunately, when we opened it up, it had been damaged during the shipping process.  It’s a good thing Jes bought insurance when he took it to UPS.  Hopefully, it’ll all get resolved before Kumquat arrives.

Happy Lunar New Year!

This is an exciting year for us and we’re excited that Kumquat will be a Dragon!  She must be just as excited because it seemed like she was kicking more frequently and harder today.

When I got home today, I was also surprised to find a package in the mailbox and then a big box at my door.  The package was from The UCLA Store with no message.  Turns out it was from Dayantha and Krissy.  Isn’t it a cute little set?!  Thanks guys!  I almost drove myself to UCLA yesterday in hopes of finding something just as cute!

The big box was from Brother and Joy.  They bought Kumquat a carrier and a pacifier that has a giraffe connected to it so that it lays on her tummy once it falls out of her mouth.  I have mixed feelings about pacifiers but if she’s going to use one, it might as well be this one.  Thanks guys!

Happy New Year!

Tahoe Weekend

We’ve been back from Tahoe since Sunday evening but I thought I’d post some photos from our trip.  First of all, we stayed at Dot and Marc’s cabin dubbed Mauna Lani and it has 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a huge deck overlooking a tree house!  We had 9 people and 3 dogs in the house and there were plenty of beds and hanging-out space for all of us.  Koa got to hang out with Smush and Brady (who he met for the first time) and they got to chow down on lots of treats and meat.  At one point, all three of them were separated to different corners of the house and Koa actually got to eat barbequed meat off of a fancy Paris plate.

On NYE, we took a little hike up to get a nice view of the lake.  With a clear blue sky, the water looked like blue glass.  I got a pretty good workout and my hamstrings were actually sore by the end of the day.

I loved watching Koa run up the trails and he was surprisingly well-behaved. I think that if we lived in Tahoe, Dog would be so much happier.  *sigh*

For lunch/dinner, we barbequed on the deck and Jes made 3 meals: pre-dinner (sausages), dinner (carne asada tacos), and after-dinner (chili lime wings).  We were so stuffed that we didn’t need anything else before the drinking started.

The girls started pretty early in the evening and were pretty much at their peak around midnight EST.  At one point, they were doing pyramid push-ups and Marc did the worm.  They even crashed the party in the house next door.  It was fun watching the action in my pjs and I stayed in to watch Dick Clark’s Rockin’ Eve while they were away.  They did, however, get back in time for the countdown and I got a tiny sip of champagne.

It was heavenly. 🙂

The next day, we had a big pancake breakfast and the dogs spent the morning napping in the sun.  Our drive home was pretty smooth and we were home by 5pm.

Here’s the rest of the photos from our weekend in Tahoe.

Happy New Year!

We’re still in Tahoe at Dot’s cabin and had a great New Year’s Eve hike yesterday. The weather was a little chilly but comfortable enough for the walk up to the peak. At the top, it overlooked Crystal Bay and the dogs got to run free. It was so much fun to watch Koa run, sniff, and explore off-leash. The view was gorgeous at 7017 feet and it was a good way to end 2011.

The rest of the afternoon and night was spent in the cabin drinking and eating. I even had a tiny sip of champagne at midnight. Happy New Year, Everyone!!! Hope your 2012 will be awesome. I know ours will be pretty exciting!

Back to SF

On Wednesday afternoon, I ran some errands with my mom.  I made some returns at the mall and then we went to several places to find some salty chicken for dinner.  My mom made Kao Mun Gai (Chicken Rice) for dinner and Brother and Joy came over to join us.  It was the perfect last meal before heading back up to SF.

Today we got up at a reasonable time, had Mommy-made waffles and bacon for breakfast, and then headed out.  It was a smooth drive up with a stop at In-N-Out in Kettleman City.  We got home by 4:30 pm with lots of time to order pizza for dinner and to do the laundry.

It was a fun 5 days in sunny Southern California but I wish we had more time to hang out with our friends and family.  I think the dog enjoyed his time in The Magical House too.

Here is a collection of all the random photos I took this past week.
