Happy Birthday, Husband!

It’s Jes’ birthday today!  He’s always a bit down on his birthday but he was surprised last night by a little package from Amazon.  It was sent from Brother and it was an ice cube tray that makes huge ice cubes for drinking with Scotch.

He was so excited that he washed it right away, filled it with water, and placed it carefully into the freezer.  For the rest of the night, he went back to the freezer to watch the water freeze and prematurely pulled one of the half-frozen cubes out.

Thanks for the entertaining gift, Brother!  He couldn’t stop saying, “that’s awesome”.

And later today…

We had drinks at Public House with Victor.  It was low-key and just what Jes wanted.

Then we had birthday cupcakes at home.

My Two Dependents

Every evening, I take the dog and baby for a walk.  Koa usually needs to poop and Kumquat needs to be distracted from her rumbly tumbly between 6 and 7.  Today we walked along the water and met up with Jes after work.  It was a good evening with my two dependents.

Yay! She’s back!

My good friend Ranee and her family have moved back to California from NYC!  We met up on Labor Day to do some catching up and to watch Sophie and Kumquat play.  I must say it was really entertaining to watch and exciting to see my little girl interact with another baby. I’m also amazed at how much Sophie’s changed since I first met her 5 months ago.

Ranee’s not going back to work just yet and it makes me wish I was still at home.  Ah…that would be so fun.  We’d have play dates and lunch dates every week!

Welcome back, Ranee!

Jason & Jia

Jason and Jia were in SF for a long weekend to find a place to live since they’re planning to move here in October.  They stayed with us for 4 days and it was fun having them around.  Kumquat got a kick out both of them and I’m sure Jes appreciated the extra help during the week.

They came along for the America’s Cup on Sunday and got to experience our “wonderful” public transportation system.

We had some tasty dinners (Washington Bakery, Zero Zero, Fringale, and Mokutanya) and also experienced a few diaper blowouts while we were out.

We dropped them off at the airport on Tuesday night and we can’t wait to have them nearby.  It looks like they’ve decided on an apartment in Foster City that’s right next to a 99 Ranch Market and one freeway exit from Jason’s work.  See you both this Fall!!!

Preview to AC

This is one of the times that I really appreciate living in SF.  The American’s Cup is coming to SF next year and this weekend was such an awesome teaser to the actual race.  All week, they’ve held the American’s Cup World Series at Marina Green and we went this weekend to watch the action.

On Saturday, we took the bus to the Marina Green and I was amazed at how they transformed the area into a little village filled complete with food vendors, a beer garden, and grand stands.  The catamarans were right up against the shore with their tall “wings” ready to race.

We got to watch all the match races and then the fleet races afterward.  Team Oracle did well and as a commoner who didn’t buy tickets for a grand stand seat, I got a pretty good view from the shore.

It was a bit gloomy and cold on Saturday but Sunday was sunny and much warmer.

After having breakfast in Chinatown and picking up some baos, we took Jason and Jia along this time.  Unfortunately, we got there just a minute too late because as we were crossing the street the finish gun went off and it was all over.  Shucks.

They’ll be back for another World Series race during Fleet Week on the first weekend of October so that should be a fun weekend.  Can’t wait to see the actual race next year!!

running on fumes

Sorry for the lack of posts this week.  I’ve been surviving work on half a tank of gas and running on fumes by the time I get home.  As soon as I’m home, it’s baby duty for me and by the time Kumquat goes to bed, I’m practically asleep in front of my laptop.

It’s been three weeks since I returned to work and each week seems to drag longer than the previous.

Kumquat has been waking up at 3 or 4 am most nights and we had one morning when she cried for 2 straight hours until my alarm went off for the morning.  That work day was NOT fun.  I’m also in the middle of a transition at work where I’m training a new hire to take my place while I’m going to be working on a different service starting next week.  I’m sure all that has contributed to this sapped feeling I had all week.

Luckily it’s Saturday morning now and I just spent an hour and a half playing with Kumquat and she actually let me sleep for 6 straight hours last night!  Aaaaah…life is good again.

Jes has been doing great as Mr. Mom.  He seems to have the routine down quite well and even makes dinner most nights!  He also managed to get both of them on Muni and BART and then my hospital shuttle so that they could meet me and the girls for Happy Hour on Thursday night.

It was really fun being out with everyone and having the husband and baby along too.  It was the best of both worlds.

Last night we also went out for a little evening outing.  After feeding Kumquat at 7, we packed her up in the stroller and walked to Super Duper for a tasty hamburger.  Afterward, we headed over to La Boulange at the mall and hung out with a bottle of wine while Kumquat slept.  We were back home by 10:30 and I had a good Friday buzz.  That was a nice way to end a rough week.
