Lunch with Friends

One of the best things about being on maternity leave is having time to catch up with friends on the weekdays.

On Thursday afternoon, my two old friends, Elaine and Elaine, rode Caltrain up from the South Bay to have coffee with me and Kumquat.  I hadn’t seen one of them since 2006!

Then on Friday, Stephanie had the day off so she took BART in from her home in Livermore to hang out with us.  We went out for brunch (and mimosas) and Stephanie also fed Kumquat her noon bottle.  Looked like they both had a nice time together.

Do I REALLY have to go back to work in August?!

Food Trucks!

Off the Grid came to my backyard last night.  They set up camp across the bridge near the other park that Koa goes to and we had dinner there last night.  Of all the choices, I wanted to try Sam’s ChowderMobile.

We ordered a clam chowder and ate it while we waited for the rest of our food and it was DElicious!

I got a Maine lobster roll, which was tasty and LOADED with lobster.

Jes got a shrimp po’boy and it really good too.  He’s pretty picky about his po’boys and this one passed.  It also came with seasoned fries.  Mmmm…

Jes also worked hard to not drop any shrimp on Kumquat’s head since she was bundled up in the front carrier.

Here she is in the carrier.  Looks comfy.  She has a good life.

Lunch with Elaine

Today Elaine took Caltrain up from San Jose to visit me and Kumquat.  We had lunch nearby and she got to feed and play with Kumquat.  This was the first time meeting her.

We were lucky to have such beautiful weather so we ate outside.  It was fun catching up and Kumquat had a great time with her too.

Out and About

Last Friday, Kumquat turned 6 weeks old and on Tuesday I went to see my doctor for my postpartum visit.  She cleared me for all physical activity and I’m officially done with the Disability portion of my leave.  I counted the weeks and it’s weird to think that I’ve been off work for 11 weeks now.  I don’t think I’ve been off work for this long since finishing grad school.  I just turned in my Paid Family Leave form so I have another 6 weeks of pay coming my way and I’m supposed to go back to work on August 6th.  Boo.

The days go by so quickly lately since chores and other errands need to get done while Kumquat naps.  It seems like the list of things to do is never-ending and the thought of napping while she’s napping seems like a waste of precious productive time.  It’s a good thing that my recovery went smoothly and I’m starting to feel like myself again.

This week I’ve been going out more to take care of some errands and to do a little shopping in preparation for the wedding in Santa Cruz this coming weekend. Kumquat loves to go out for walks and seems to have a happy grin on her face if she’s not sleeping.  She looks around and seems to enjoy the sounds and movement.

Jason and Jia were also in town this past weekend so we were out and about with them too.  Kumquat has been a trooper out in the big world.  She rode in the carrier all afternoon on Sunday and we also took her on her first Muni ride.

Yesterday I took her in the stroller and walked to Union Square where we spent about 5 straight hours outside.  It was also a fun challenge trying to negotiate the city with a stroller.  Kumquat did great the whole time and despite her size and age, it was nice to have the company.  The only hiccup was on our way home.  It was as if she knew we were only 2 blocks from home and started screaming.  She didn’t stop crying until 20 minutes after we got home and after I changed her, fed her, and rocked her to sleep.  Poor baby had a long outing and was just pooped.

Here are some of the things we saw along the way.

UNIQLO is coming to SF.  It’s one of my favorite stores in NYC and it’s going to be here in the fall!!

Saw this T-Rex in the store front of the Museum of Craft and Folk Art Store.  That T-Rex was almost my height!

I picked up a “snoball” cupcake (chocolate cake with buttercream and coconut) and asked to take it “To-Go”.  The girl packed it so nicely in a plastic cupcake holder and cellophane bag like it was a museum piece.  Fancy.

Thank you, Mommy!

My mom spent the past 7 weeks here in SF and it’s hard to believe that she’s gone back to Cerritos.  She arrived a week before Kumquat’s due date and stayed until she was almost 6 weeks old.  It was so nice to have her here with me before and after Kumquat was born.  I don’t know how I would have handled the first several weeks without her help.  I also enjoyed the company and, of course, all the tasty food she cooked for us.  She even made me one last batch of peanut sauce for me this week so that I had some after she was gone.

Last night, we took her to dinner at Roy’s.  Kumquat came along too and I did my first restaurant restroom diaper change.

After dinner, I took my mom to the Giants game.  We got $10 standing room only tickets so that I could take her around the stadium.  We got a pretty good view of the game and McCovey Cove before heading back home.

Day 0

Day 40

Before dropping my mom at the airport, we spent the morning in the usual way – entertaining Kumquat. I got a photo of them together and it’s funny that my mom was wearing the same top she wore the day Kumquat was born.  Boy, has time flown and my my has my baby grown!  I think Kumquat was just as sad to see her grandma go today.

Thanks for all your help and company, Mommy!  We will all miss having you around…including Kumquat and Koa.  Love you and see you on FaceTime!

Spa Day

Last June I purchased a Groupon for Teresa for her birthday.  Now that I’m no longer preggo and it’s 2 weeks from her wedding, we thought it would be the perfect time to redeem!  It was a Groupon for a 50-minute pedicure and 30-minute massage at I-Spa at the Intercontinental Hotel for $65 per person.  It’s a pretty fancy spa and this Groupon turned out to be an awesome deal.

Before our first appointment, we met up at Luce for brunch at 11:00 am.  I had the smoked salmon eggs benedict and it was delicious…especially because I wasn’t allowed to have smoked salmon for 9 months.  We also got mimosas and that was equally tasty.

At 12:30 pm, we headed upstairs to the spa and they gave us robes, slippers, and complimentary champange.  Yes!  The pedicure at 1:00 was so nice and now my toes are ready for my role as bridesmaid in two weeks.  We then had about an hour to just sit and relax.  The massage was at 3:00 pm and the lady got all the kinks out of my neck and shoulders.  Aaah…so nice.

That was such a fun day and it was the first time I had been away from Kumquat for so long – 6 hours!!  My mom also went shopping at the mall so Jes was on Kumquat duty including a bottle feeding.  Looked like it wasn’t so bad so it was a super win for me!
