Vitamin D

It was sunny in SF so I spent some time outside this weekend.

On Saturday, Husband and I took a stroll around the city.  We found a Filipino Festival at the Yerba Buena Gardens and saw some pretty fun t-shirts and watched the stick fighting demo on stage.

Then we headed over to the Apple Store and bought an Apple TV device.  Not sure how we’re going to use it in the long-run but Jes has watched the first 2 seasons of The Wire on it so far.

Also stopped at the Ferry Plaza/Farmers’ Market on the way home.  Had a delicious pulled pork sammich from Il Cane Rosso and found a giant heirloom tomato that was bigger than my hand!

On Sunday, I got up early to walk the dog.  I was treated to this beautiful view from McCovey Cove.  Later I drove to Berkeley to meet up with friends for a 6-mile run.  It’s always more fun to run with friends…especially when you can finish with a big brunch afterward.

Later that night, I got an email from my doctor’s office letting me know that my Vitamin D test results came back and I’m finally within the normal range!  Woooo!!  I’ve spent a good year worshiping the sun and it’s finally paid off.

They keep me sane.

My job can be hard sometimes but I’m lucky enough to have such an awesome group of girls to keep me sane and grounded.  With Jes in Salt Lake City this week for a conference, I had these ladies to keep me busy.

On Monday, we went to the Giants game and lucked out on a pleasant evening and a beautiful view of the bay.

They all came over after work for some of the usual hi-jinks and then we headed across the street to enjoy some garlic fries and dogs.

This evening, we went on our Wednesday run and finished 6 miles!  Afterward, we had an early celebration of Stephanie’s birthday with Indian food and Ici Ice Cream.

I had a scrumptious meyer lemon ice cream sammich with ginger snaps.  Mmm…

Gaaarlic

A couple weekends ago, we went to the Gilroy Garlic Festival.  I’d always wanted to go and we finally went!  We drove down to Redwood City to meet up with Jason who then drove us the rest of the way.  We got there early enough to get parking at a reasonable spot and caught the shuttle over to the fairgrounds. Stephanie and her husband also met up with us and we also bumped into Jimmy and Eleen!  Cool.

It was warm and sunny but so pleasant.  We visited every Beer Station on the grounds and even waited in line for the Free Garlic Ice Cream.

It was good but the garlic aftertaste was kinda weird.

We snacked on garlic shrimp and garlic bread and also enjoyed some tasty BBQ and grilled corn on the cob.  We had fun tasting stuff and people-watching.  I’m glad I finally got to go but I’m not sure I’ll have to go every year.

Afternoon in the Park

This afternoon, we packed a picnic and took Muni to Golden Gate Park.  The San Francisco Symphony had a free concert in Sharon Meadow and the weather cooperated.  When we got off the street car, it was kinda cold and windy but the sun came out by the time we got to the park.

We enjoyed some Mt. Tam, crackers, salami, and olives with our Bandit box of wine and classical music.

After a short little nap in the sun, we also had some of the pasta salad that I made at home using a rotisserie chicken, bowtie pasta, tomato, basil, olive oil, and salt/pepper.  Yummy.

Here are more photos from this afternoon.

We had a fun time and it was a cheap/easy way to enjoy the good weather.  I sure do miss our trips to Hollywood Bowl every summer.

July 4th Weekend

We stayed in SF for the long weekend and it was lots of fun and pretty relaxing. The weather was GORGEOUS and I got lots of Vitamin D.

On Saturday, I had a slow start and was feeling EXTRA lazy but somehow I got my butt out the door and ran 5 miles in under 50 minutes. I was shocked. So, I stopped at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market and bought some fresh produce and cheese.

Later that afternoon, the Sokol-Juns came over to play in the pool for a bit. It was fun to watch Jack and Reese play in the water while I got some sunshine.

I caught this photo of Reese and Jack together at the end of their swim.  So cute.

On Sunday, Jason came over and we went to the Fillmore Jazz Festival. We watched a few performers including Kim Nalley and also stopped by Matt’s apartment down the street for some respite from the sun and Jes borrowed a pair of shorts.

When we got home that evening, we met up down in the courtyard for a Korean BBQ with the Masayas. Susie’s mom packed her a huge cooler of spicy pork and kimchi last weekend and we were lucky enough to enjoy it. Susie prepared and bought all the sides for a complete meal.

On Monday, it was July 4th and I actually had the day off. We had a lazy morning and afternoon while I made chicken tortilla soup for Jes who has been sick all week. Then around 7:00, we walked over to the Caltrain station where a shuttle drove us all the way to Pier 39. We walked down to Aquatic Park and Ghiradelli Square and found a small spot on the lawn. We’ve tried to watch fireworks a few times in the past but always ended up with colored fog.

This year, it was clear and we were situated in the middle of the action with music and a perfect view of the show.

Here is a video of the finale.  I love fireworks.

Here are the rest of the photos from this weekend.

I went to LA…

…and all I got were some bruises.

This past weekend was bachelorette party weekend for Krissy in LA while the boys were in Vegas for Dayantha’s bachelor party.  On Friday after work, Susie, Jen, and I drove down to LA together.  It was a long but uneventful drive and I was in bed by 3 am.

The next morning I woke up early go visit Pish for a check on a chipped tooth that I had and also got a cleaning.  Afterward, I met up with Brother and Joy who then called the Wangs to join us for brunch at King’s Hawaiian in Torrance.  Yum yum!

I got this really cute video of Naomi eating her rice.  She’s so cute!

Later in the afternoon, I got ready and picked up the girls from Susie’s house.  My parents agreed to drive us to West Hollywood to meet up with the rest of the girls who had already started some of the festivities.  There was pizza and games at the apartment and then we all loaded up into a limo for a night on the town.

The first stop was Hollywood Men, which was a cheesy male show for the bride-to-be.  The limo then took us to Blvd3 where we danced and enjoyed the VIP table that was reserved.

Brother, Joy, and Roland also crashed the party since it was so close to Roland’s apartment.  Good times…

By the end of the night, we were all very tired and the nice limo driver took us all back to Cerritos where my car was waiting for me at Ti’s house.  The 20-min nap was just enough for me to be rested for the drive back to Susie’s and then my parents’ house at the end of the night.

The next morning, we drove back to SF and I was exhausted.  Thankfully I had taken Monday off.  Unfortunately, I found a bruise on my right knee, three bruises on my left knee and one of my left arm.  To came home with a broken toe and Ti’s legs were all black and blue too.  Boy, we had a goooood time.
