Lunchbox

Is anyone else sad that Borders is closing down a bunch of their stores?!  I LOVED going to the one across the street from my house and it closed down last year.  Just recently they filed bankruptcy and I got an email that the store in the mall downtown was also closing and were having a big close-out sale.

So, Jes and I headed over in the rain and I picked up a few things: a Spanish grammar book, a couple magazines, a couple travel books, and THIS AWESOME LUNCHBOX!  Now that I won’t have any Borders nearby, where am I going to buy my Paperchase goods?!

Happy Dog

Dog had a rough week.  I don’t know what he got his nose in but Jes came home on Tuesday to find crap (YES, ACTUAL CRAP) all over the house.  He was pretty bummed out the rest of the week and was looking better today so we took him to Fort Funston.

He ran, sniffed, and peed on everything.  He was a happy happy dog and it was great to see the ocean.

Ah…the ocean…

Sunny Pork

We had a gorgeous day in the city today.  This is a photo I took in the middle of this morning’s run along Pier 14.  For lunch, Jes and I took a walk to the Farmers Market and got a good dose of Vitamin D.  I was actually in shorts, a t-shirt, and flip-flops!  Jes waited in line for the porchetta sandwich at Roli Roti while I wandered around the corner for a big bowl of pork ramen from Hapa Ramen.

We slurped up the ramen while we were in line and finished it just in time for the sandwich. I ordered the ramen with a slow-cooked egg and it was extra tasty with the oozy yolk that I L-O-V-E.

With the tasty sammich in my hands, we took it over to a bench and ate our halves in silence.  Jes gets to eat this for lunch on weekdays without the long line and I finally got to try it.  It was delicious.  Loved the crispy salty skin and sweet onion combo.  Mmm…

After such a savory lunch, we picked up a bubbly drink that was like soda water with a little bit of sweetness.  Not only was it refreshing but it was only 50 calories and had a really cute design on the label.  I should have bought a 6-pack.

Happy Baby

Yesterday, Michelle and I met up at the coffeeshop downstairs and we had a little moment of girl time.  We flipped through a magazine together and enjoyed a lazy Saturday afternoon.  She also brought Reese along and she was as happy as can be to just sit on my lap and take in the sights and sounds.

I hang out with lots of babies at work and it’s really refreshing to be able to hang out with a normal, happy, healthy baby every once in a while.

Warm Winter Evening

This past week, we had 65-degree weather and lots of sunshine.  To take full advantage of the mild weather, T and I had an outdoor dinner at Plouf on Wednesday before heading home to watch a rerun of Top Chef.  I really like Belden Place.  It’s a cute little alley lined with a bunch of restaurants all with outdoor patio seating.  It’s very Euro and so much fun when it’s not freezing cold outside.  We shared a huge pot of mussels and truffle oil pommes frites.  Perfect.  I’m glad that I can relive my Eurotrips closer to home every once in a while.

Attack of the Birds

This past week we’ve had some pretty spectacular sunrises and sunsets.  On Wednesday, I noticed that the seagulls were swarming over McCovey Cove and I could hear sea lions close-by.

I walked the dog over to the pier and it looked like it was herring season again.  The fishing boats were all out catching the fish bright and early in the morning.

Later that afternoon, I went for a run and saw that the tide was really really low.  The full moon hung low behind the horizon and there were seagulls everywhere.  Wow, what a strange time of year.

On Saturday, I convinced Jes to go outside for a little sunshine since it had warmed up and we both needed to get some Vitamin D.  So we walked down to Pier 40 to take a look at the boats and hang out for a bit.  We walked all the way down to the end and found a HUGE flock of seagulls taking off from the pier.  I could see a scattering of plops in the water and ducked for cover.  Unfortunately, Jes was not so lucky.  He got hit in the cheek and some of the droppings also ran down his sweatshirt.  Great.  Our walk was instantly over and we had to head home.  *sigh* So much for getting outside.

Here’s another photo I took this morning during my run.  Luckily they were taking off toward the water and not over me.  Phew.
