Right on Track

IMG_8358The Miracle Marathon is well underway and Kumquat and I have been running and scooting our way toward 27.2 miles.  Luckily, we’ve had lots of good weather in the evenings and Kumquat has been really good in the stroller.  She knows the routine now and says “nai-nai, snack, and bubbles in the stroller” and “Mama go running!”

IMG_8361We live in such a great area and The Embarcadero is such a nice place to run – no stop lights, wide sidewalk, and awesome views.  This is one of the piers that we run down to get a spectacular view of the Bay Bridge and city skyline.

On Wednesday, Kumquat did a mile for Mommy on her scooter.  It was pretty tiring for her toward the end but she finished!

IMG_8383And this is a common view from my perspective.  This toddler has a good life.  Sometimes I wish she would push ME around in the stroller for 3 miles!!

Jes’ 39th

IMG_7728Jes turned 39 this weekend and he three days of celebrating.  On Friday, his parents were in town and we all went to Hillstone for dinner.

IMG_7730On Saturday, we went to the Farmer’s Market and Kumquat was extra clingy to him that day.

IMG_7845 IMG_7847On Sunday, we all sang Happy Birthday to him at Zoe’s party and he got the usual shots with his cupcake.

Happy 39th, Jes!  We love you!

Sunday in Golden Gate Park

IMG_5792On Sunday, we went to the Cal Academy for the members-only hour.  I can’t believe our membership will expire this month.  Seems like we just joined.  Glad we got to go more than enough to make up the cost.

IMG_5826Afterward, we visited the Japanese Tea Garden for the first time.  IMG_5805It’s just across the street and it’s a lot bigger inside than I expected.

IMG_5807They have an actual tea house inside where we had some tea and tako yaki.

IMG_5829

The garden is beautifully manicured and there were lots of nooks and crannies to explore.  The koi pond is probably the coolest part.

IMG_5803

The little bridges were the most nerve-racking for parents of a toddler.

IMG_5827

Other than that there was plenty of room for Kumquat to roam.IMG_5818 IMG_5820 IMG_5822

FYI: Admission is $7/adult.  SF residents get in for $5.

Vivian’s 1st Birthday

DSC_5110Little Vivian turned One last week and we celebrated this afternoon at a park in Walnut Creek.  The weather was warm with a nice breeze and Stephanie had a great spot in the shade and in between the two playground structures.

DSC_5116DSC_5115Vivian really enjoyed her birthday cake: angel food cake with whipped cream and strawberry.

Henry didn’t get any cake but he really loves his aunties and his newly-introduced puffs.

It was nice seeing the kids together and Vivian has really grown so much.  Hard to believe she’s not a baby anymore.DSC_5136

Pretty soon she’ll be walking, talking, and blowing bubbles like this kid I know.

Opera at the Ballpark

IMG_5583It’s that time of year again!  AT&T hosted “Opera at the Ballpark” once more and this time it was a live simulcast of “La Traviata”.  I recognized two of the songs and I think it was the opera that they went to in the movie “Pretty Woman”.  We stood in line for the gate that allows people to sit on the field.  With green wristbands, we were guaranteed a spot.

IMG_5584Once we got in, we set-up camp toward the back so the stroller wouldn’t be in anyone’s way and we could make a quick exit for bathroom breaks and to go home if needed.

DCIM100GOPROWe picked up three 20-piece chicken mcnuggets and the 7 of us feasted before the opera started.

The sun eventually went down and it got significantly colder on the field.  IMG_5599By the end of Act I, we were freezing and it was time for Kumquat to go to bed.  So, we skipped out during intermission.

Action-packed Weekend

IMG_5368

Some weekends are lazy and some are filled with friends, family, and fun.  This past weekend was the latter.  Saturday started with brunch at the Ferry Plaza where Kumquat practiced taking photos with the iPhone.  IMG_5359

This is the picture she took of me.  Not too bad, kid.IMG_5377

On our way home, the kid fell asleep so we indulged with some wine and macarons from the cafe downstairs from our condo.IMG_5389As soon as she woke up, we packed up our stuff and headed back out for a train ride to the Bangs’ for a BBQ.  We started planning this BBQ since beginning of May and only recently found a mutual free weekend.

IMG_5402It was fun catching up and to see all the kids together. At one point, all the kids were in the backyard and Jesse was the only adult.  He had a moment of panic and yelled, “Hey, I think we probably need one more adult out here.”  He did just fine for those 10 minutes.  Click here for more photos from Kumquat’s perspective.

IMG_5449On Sunday, Jia and Jason had a rare day off together so they came over to spend a very warm and sunny day in SF with us.  At brunch, the two brothers were both cooking in the sun and had to cover themselves toward the end.

IMG_5455After a 2-hour nap/break at home, we all headed back out.  We went to Union Square and found lots of party-goers finishing up them Pride Weekend festivities.  We opted for drinks and sweets at a cafe overlooking the street, which was so nice.

IMG_5462For dinner, we went to Kin Khao (literal translation in Thai: eat rice).  It’s created by Pim, a famous food blogger that Jes has been following for years.  She was actually working there and served a couple of our dishes.  The menu consists of dishes that are her playful twist on traditional Thai dishes.  Some of them are actually spicy enough for Jesse to appreciate too.  The papaya salad was legit, fried chicken was good and came with sticky rice made the right way, and the massaman curry was made with short ribs.  Overall, it was a fun dinner but I don’t know if I’ll be going back there.  When I’m in the mood for Thai food, I want the real stuff and lots of it for a cheaper price.  Most of the dishes were good but made me crave dinner at Thai Nakorn.
