Optimistic

This morning I had my first meeting and I was a little nervous about it.  It involved attorneys on both sides and the possibility of a notoriously mean one attending.  Fortunately for me, the nice attorney showed up and the meeting went smoothly.  Aaahh…what a relief.  I thought I was in for another rocky school year.  Being that it was my first “unofficial” day back, it went well and I’m sorta looking forward to starting a new year.  I suppose that’s how I am every year but I’m just happy to know that the parents that gave me a lot of grief last year have all moved on to other schools.  I’m going to have to make a point to be very proactive, make friends, and see the fires coming before they even start.  I go back tomorrow for a real day in the clinic and I’m sure it will just involve putting my clinic back together (everything is in disarray from the carpet cleaning) and catching up with my aide.

As for this afternoon, I’m going to try to enjoy my last hours of “summer vacation”.  Maybe I’ll go to the pool, catch up on my magazines, and just relax.

Just a little more vacation left…

My official first day back to work is this Friday but unfortunately I have a meeting already scheduled tomorrow morning and Thursday morning. Booo…. One good thing about it is that I will be able to “flex” those days later in the year. So, I’m going to just loaf around the house today to make the most of my last day off.

As you may have noticed, I changed the theme of beakatude. I’m currently dabbling in some photo album software/plugins including the possible use of Flickr. *grr* In the past, Flickr hasn’t really impressed me but they have a few features that would be nice to use on WordPress if they actually worked.

Oh yeah, I also signed up for a Beginning Photography class that starts mid-September. It requires the use of my 35mm SLR again, which will be a nice change. I’m just curious to see how my skills compare to the last time I took a photography class back in 1995. I can’t wait to get high on the processing chemicals.

So long, Camp!

Yesterday was my last day of Camp. It’s still going for one more week but I’m going to Hawaii on Tuesday. As I drove to PV one last time, it didn’t even phase me. The morning flew by and it wasn’t until the last hour that it hit me. So, I took my last walk-around and went to see my little friend Jadon who is 2 years older now and talking so much more since I last treated him. I said my goodbyes and they sounded more like, “see you later”. I guess I’ll always be back to visit at least. I think the door will remain open for as long as I’m willing to make the drive. I’ll consider it but I’m also relieved to be done and officially on vacation.

It feels like summer.

Seriously…it’s only for 3 weeks out of the whole year that I set my alarm for 6:00 am and I’m out the door to drive 54 miles before the sun rises. It’s for Camp. Today was the beginning of the second week and I ended up staying at Camp until 7 pm because a camper hadn’t been picked up yet. I would have had to stay longer but our boss came to relieve us. Only 4 more days and I will no longer need to fill out incident reports for bloody noses, babysit forgotten campers, or sort t-shirts. I will be relieved but again, sad that I’ll be done with this insanity. It’s been a fun 4 years but I’m soooo ready to hand it over to the next generation.

time to play

I’m in the middle of Week One of Camp. I’ve been getting up at 6 am each morning and on the road by 6:30 am. It’s been rough but I sure am caught up on pop culture through Kevin and Bean and the news through the news radio and NPR.

So far, everything has been going smoothly and the new coordinators that I’m sorta mentoring are doing great. Unfortunately, I’ve been stuck in the office taking care of the last bit of my paperwork duties. Luckily I finished everything today and I’m ready to be out in the sun. It’s hard work running around and hauling stuff but it sure beats being in the office behind a laptop all day.
In addition to all the paperwork, I’ve been able to get outside for little spurts to take photos. We have this new “Camp Live” thing where parents can go online and view photos of their kid at camp…sorta. It’s sorta because I’m the one taking and uploading all the photos and it’s hard to keep track of who I’ve taken and who paid for the service. It definitely forces me work on my photog skills. Just wait until I bring my flash tomorrow. Heh Heh.

refreshing

I just settled into the Bangs’ apartment and how nice it is to be on vacation! Not only am I hundreds of miles away from Irvine but it’s refreshingly cold here (right now at least). I’m wearing the shorts and t-shirt that I went to work in and found myself freezing my tail off as we waited for our ride at the airport curb. Awesome. As we drove through Oakland, across the Bay Bridge, and through SF, I realized how much I missed the Bay Area. Or maybe I’m burnt out of Southern California and the heat. Whatever it may be, I am officially on vacation! I just uploaded the last part of my camp assignments, have a hefty glass of wine next to me, and life is good. Let’s all take a moment to say “Aaaaaah”. Thank you.
