Feeding Kumquat

On Thursday morning (11/3), I had my 3rd prenatal check-up.  It was pretty routine.  We heard Kumquat’s heartbeat with the Doppler and it was a strong 150 bpm.  The interesting part of the visit was when I told her that I had gained 3 pounds so far.  Doctor informed me that I should have gained more than that by now (at 16 weeks) so she advised me to eat more calorie-dense foods (peanut butter, ice cream, etc.) and not to worry as much about eating all my veggies and stuff.  In other words, she looked at Jes and implied that he needed to help fatten me up.  Haha.  It’s like a girl’s dream but I felt kinda sick thinking about it.  How ironic.

Luckily, that same evening, I had McWino Night planned with the girls.  It’s our spin on Happy Hour that started one night when Teresa and I ended up on the roof of my building with wine and junk food.  It later evolved to a night on the roof with McDonald’s and bottles of wine. For this go-around, we had to move it indoors since it had rained earlier in the day.

We also added nachos to the menu this time in order to celebrate the end our hospital audit.

While I was telling the girls about how I had to fatten up, I found a baby McNugget.  Isn’t it cute?  I thought so…and it was delicious.  At the end of the night, we used FaceTime to hangout with Ranee too.  Good times…

Anniversary Dinner

On Wednesday night (11/2), Jes and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary.  We drove down to Los Gatos, which is about an hour south of SF, for an epic 3.5-hour dinner at Manresa.  We opted for the tasting menu and probably had a total of 11 different little morsels.

This one was a really pretty one called “In the Garden”, which is basically a collection of vegetables and edible flowers from their organic garden on site.  The food was all very good but I was ovewhelmed by course #8.  Kumquat made a little harder for me to eat as much as I usually do so Jes finished off a lot of my dishes.

The night ended with a pair of black sesame/black licorice macarons and candles.  Cute.

Well, we definitely have plenty to celebrate this year.  It’s crazy to think that we’ve been together for 16 years and married for 9 of those years and we’ll be embarking on a new stage of our life this coming year.  Cheers!

Happy 4th, Little J!

On Tuesday night (11/1), Michelle invited us over for some chili and cake.  It was Little J’s 4th birthday and he was off the hook that night.  He was all hyped up and knew it was his special night. Reese also seemed to have a good time eating her fruit and hamming it up too.

Before dinner, we was dressed as Captain America and had a cake to match.

Afterward, he opened his gifts and went back and forth between his baseball toy and the bug racing toy.

Seemed like Ryan and Jes were more interested in the latter.  Henry and Tweaky raced all night and Jack couldn’t bear to watch his Henry get beat by Jes’ Tweaky 5:1.

I slept.

Last night I had a full night’s sleep for the first time in months.  Ever since Kumquat came along I’ve had to get up in the middle of the night at least once or twice (around 3am) to pee and have been struggling to fall back asleep because I’m either uncomfortable or congested.  But last night was different.  I woke up at 6, my nose was clear, and my mouth wasn’t dry from breathing out of my mouth all night.  Aaaah…

Tomorrow I will be 16 weeks along and my clothes are starting to feel a little snug around the waist.  So, I went shopping today and it was quite an experience.  I stopped at Gap first since it was just up the stairs from my Muni stop.  I had to go upstairs to the 2nd floor for the first time to find the Maternity section, which is a tiny corner of the floor among all the baby clothes. I thought this wooden elephant was so cute.

I managed to find a cute pair of skinny jeans that has a stretchy panel in the front, a pair of work pants, and a top.

I also went to Old Navy and their layout was the same.  Maternity was on a separate floor with the baby/kid clothes tucked away in the corner.

I guess I’m in an awkward stage where I don’t have a real baby bump yet…I just look a little chubbier around the middle.  So, trying on clothes today was a little depressing.  I’m too small for the maternity tops but regular clothes fit terribly.  I kept thinking to myself, “Kumquat had better be in here or else I’m in trouble!”

It took me about 3 hours to find a total of 3 pairs of pants, 4 tops, and a sweater.  That was hard work.

He still hates it.

On Wednesday, I got home at a decent time so I decided to take Dog for a long walk and then stopped at the pet store to buy some dog food.  While we were there, I thought, “Hm…Dog’s kinda stinky.”  So, I dragged him into the bathhouse and he got his quarterly bath.  As he always does, he cried and screamed through the whole thing and I left the place soaked.

Oh well.  I have a clean dog now and he got a little treat.  We’re both happy.

Sunday Supper

A couple Sundays ago (10/16), the Bangs invited us over for dinner.  It had been a while so it was good to catch up and see how the kids have grown and changed since the last time I saw them.

I got a few photos of Reese, Jack, and Rowan while they played.  Here are a few more photos of the kids.
