Opera at the Ballpark

IMG_5583It’s that time of year again!  AT&T hosted “Opera at the Ballpark” once more and this time it was a live simulcast of “La Traviata”.  I recognized two of the songs and I think it was the opera that they went to in the movie “Pretty Woman”.  We stood in line for the gate that allows people to sit on the field.  With green wristbands, we were guaranteed a spot.

IMG_5584Once we got in, we set-up camp toward the back so the stroller wouldn’t be in anyone’s way and we could make a quick exit for bathroom breaks and to go home if needed.

DCIM100GOPROWe picked up three 20-piece chicken mcnuggets and the 7 of us feasted before the opera started.

The sun eventually went down and it got significantly colder on the field.  IMG_5599By the end of Act I, we were freezing and it was time for Kumquat to go to bed.  So, we skipped out during intermission.

July 4th

This year, I worked on July 4th and it actually wasn’t too bad.  We had a good group of therapists working and it was a lot more laid back than a usual day.  IMG_5532

Henry and Aaron also stopped by at lunch so that gave us a nice little break in the day.

IMG_5528Meanwhile, Jes took Kumquat for a ride on the train to get to Jason and Jia’s house in Redwood City.  I got this photo sent to me with a text saying “Peace out, suckas.”

IMG_5562

I drove straight down to Redwood City from work and after enjoying some ribs, corn, and ice cream, we sat down and watched fireworks on tv.  It was such a nice way to end the day.  It sure beats having to fight traffic and crowds.

Baby Avia

DSC_4936 I got a text from Ranee on Saturday afternoon saying that she was going in to the hospital due to some minor complications.  They decided to do a c-section that night and Baby Avia Ema was born!  On Monday, I went to visit them in the hospital and it was so fun to see a newborn again.  DSC_4941DSC_4947DSC_4970She was so small next to big sister Sophie.  Ranee looked great and the baby was already eating like a champ.DSC_4975IMG_5468

Action-packed Weekend

IMG_5368

Some weekends are lazy and some are filled with friends, family, and fun.  This past weekend was the latter.  Saturday started with brunch at the Ferry Plaza where Kumquat practiced taking photos with the iPhone.  IMG_5359

This is the picture she took of me.  Not too bad, kid.IMG_5377

On our way home, the kid fell asleep so we indulged with some wine and macarons from the cafe downstairs from our condo.IMG_5389As soon as she woke up, we packed up our stuff and headed back out for a train ride to the Bangs’ for a BBQ.  We started planning this BBQ since beginning of May and only recently found a mutual free weekend.

IMG_5402It was fun catching up and to see all the kids together. At one point, all the kids were in the backyard and Jesse was the only adult.  He had a moment of panic and yelled, “Hey, I think we probably need one more adult out here.”  He did just fine for those 10 minutes.  Click here for more photos from Kumquat’s perspective.

IMG_5449On Sunday, Jia and Jason had a rare day off together so they came over to spend a very warm and sunny day in SF with us.  At brunch, the two brothers were both cooking in the sun and had to cover themselves toward the end.

IMG_5455After a 2-hour nap/break at home, we all headed back out.  We went to Union Square and found lots of party-goers finishing up them Pride Weekend festivities.  We opted for drinks and sweets at a cafe overlooking the street, which was so nice.

IMG_5462For dinner, we went to Kin Khao (literal translation in Thai: eat rice).  It’s created by Pim, a famous food blogger that Jes has been following for years.  She was actually working there and served a couple of our dishes.  The menu consists of dishes that are her playful twist on traditional Thai dishes.  Some of them are actually spicy enough for Jesse to appreciate too.  The papaya salad was legit, fried chicken was good and came with sticky rice made the right way, and the massaman curry was made with short ribs.  Overall, it was a fun dinner but I don’t know if I’ll be going back there.  When I’m in the mood for Thai food, I want the real stuff and lots of it for a cheaper price.  Most of the dishes were good but made me crave dinner at Thai Nakorn.

Longest Day of the Year

IMG_5207It’s the first day of summer and the longest day of the year!  In the morning, we went to the SF Zoo and met up with Ranee, Jamie, and Sophie.  It was so fun to see the girls interacting and it seemed like it didn’t take as long for them to warm up to each other.  It was also nice to catch up with Ranee since I hadn’t seen her since the beginning of the month before she started her maternity leave.

After dinner at SuperDuper, we watched the sun set around 8:30pm as Kumquat ran up and down Pier 14.IMG_5241We then walked home down The Embarcadero and it still wasn’t dark.  What a nice way to kick off the summer!

Father’s Day Weekend

DCIM100GOPRO

This past weekend was filled with lots of family time in the city.  On Saturday afternoon, we went out for a long walk and dinner at Hog Island.  Our party of 3 enjoyed the warm weather that day and took this photo together on Pier 14 with the GoPro.IMG_5010

On Sunday morning, I made spam, eggs, and rice for the family.  Yum.

IMG_5026 For the day, we went down to Golden Gate Park for a morning at the CA Academy of Sciences and then an afternoon at the SF Botanical Garden.  Jes also took a work call at 1pm from the garden so I walked around the entire garden while Kumquat settled down in the stroller for a nap.

IMG_5077

IMG_5075We even had a little cocktail hour at Pacific Catch while Kumquat slept and we reenacted one of our many afternoons in Hawaii with some mai tais and poke.  IMG_5087

We also got ice cream from the Twirl n Dip truck parked just around the corner from the museum.

IMG_5117

For dinner, we went to Hillstone, our usual celebration spot, and these two were so cute together that evening.

Happy Father’s Day, Jes!  Hope you had a fun day!
