Teflon-flavored Bananas

dsc_3904a.jpg

Friends came over for a little BBQ today. Jes made his yummy chili-lime wings. I made my guac. Susie brought over the drinks. We made some margaritas. And Ryan almost burned my house down. No, just kidding. He did, however, manage to set my non-stick pan on fire so we got some Teflon-flavored Bananas Foster. Yum. We all still managed to eat every last bit of it and I once again survived another banana-based dish. No gagging this time around but I think it was the ice cream that helped it go down easier.

Once again, little Jack stole the show and he also got to hang out with Koa, Smush, and Señor Fatty DuckDuck.

Here are the photos.

A Little Dose of Culture

Jes and I went to Outer Mission yesterday for a little SF Carnaval experience. We rode BART (free with our Muni passes) and walked down to Harrison and 16th where there was a sea of people trying to cram themselves into the festival. There were performers, food booths, and a bunch of corporate booths ranging from Best Buy to Disneyland. There were also vendors selling all kinds of t-shirts, banners, and anything else you could think of that celebrated Brazilians, Mexicans, Peruvians, Nicaraguans, etc etc.

We watched a group of people singing and chanting while two guys performed capoeira. That was pretty cool. We also watched three DJ’s having a scratch-off underneath a different tent and that was pretty fun to watch as well. Overall, it was quite a cultural experience in the area that Vyl calls “Mexico”. It was interesting but I don’t think we’ll be returning next year.

2-in-1

I found this cool toy for Koa at Target and thought I’d do some show and tell.  It’s a squeaky plush AND a tennis ball, which are two of Koa’s most favorite toys.  I also thought it was cute.  Unfortunately, they didn’t sew the head on very well and Koa nearly tore his head off in a matter of seconds.  So, as I’ve done with many of his other plush toys, I restitched the head back on with dental floss, which I’ve found to be nearly indestructible to his teeth.

Hangin’ with the Cousins

Pish and Debbie flew up with Katie this weekend so Jes and I met up with them at Ishya and Billy’s house for a little BBQ. It was great to see everyone again and Katie is walking, signing, and eating solids. Wow, time really flies. She was getting over a cold so there was a little more grumpiness this time around but I managed to get a smile or two out of her. The food was great and it was nice to catch up with my uncle and auntie too.

Here are photos of the afternoon.

I just talked to Marie the other night and as we got caught up, she emailed me some photos of Cole and Brandon. My little buddy Cole is such a big boy doing big boy things now while little Brandon is going through his milestones like clockwork. I’ll be in Orange County in a couple of weeks and can’t wait to just hang out with Marie and the boys just like old times. I miss you guys!!

He’s back!

This guy used to sit at MacArthur BART Station everyday and sold handmade beanies. He taught himself to crochet and makes enough to pay for rent and take weekends off. He even gives discounts to people who can’t afford to pay $10 for a hat. Well, I noticed a couple months ago that he suddenly disappeared. It was kinda weird since he had always been there ever since I started working at Children’s last summer. But then, this afternoon as I got off the shuttle, he was in his usual spot! Beanie Man is back. Nice to see ya again!
