House Rules

dsc_7478.jpg

This morning I got up, ironed Jes’ shirt, and then plopped myself down on the couch for the rest of the day. Jimmy had some work to do before going to the dentist at lunchtime so we hung out side-by-side all morning. Before he left, he looked at me and said, “Did you wear that to sleep last night? If you did, you have to change your clothes today.” Huh? Yep, apparently it’s a house rule because he “[doesn’t] run a sloppy house”. So I followed the rule by not only changing once but TWICE. Jimmy cracks me up.I pretty much spent the day taking care of a bunch of things. Most of them were related to finances. Since we are expecting to close tomorrow morning, I went online and changed our billing and mailing addresses for all our accounts and also worked on our new budget. Also, in an effort to minimize paper waste and things we have to file, I made sure we had paperless statements for everything. It’s the least I can do to declutter our new home.

This afternoon I went for a run along the bay. The neighborhood is so cute and has a pretty nice running trail along the water. I took my GPS and measured a 2.4-mile loop. I think I can actually add more distance if I go out farther before returning to the house.

Manly Kamping

Jes and his Roebling boys went camping in Tahoe this weekend for ManKamp 07.  Ryan, the instigator,  planned the whole thing and brought t-shirts for all once again.  It sounds like the beer was flowing and they were up to no good, as usual.  Jes sent me some photos and it looks like they had a great time.  It’s cool to see that even though 11 years have passed and two of the boys are about to be dads, they still know how to have fun together.

Wine, Cigars, and Teddy Grahams

img_6047.jpgIt’s been so hectic around here lately that I’ve been a little behind on my postings. I just uploaded photos of our night out with our friends and neighbors, Jay and Nikki. It was on one of Jesse’s last nights in Irvine and we thought it would be fun to walk down to the wine bar for a little tasting. We started with a sushi dinner at Mitsui and then walked next door to the bar. It was packed with people but we managed to get a great spot inside. There was a live band playing and we enjoyed a flight of Merlots and a flight of some other reds. I also brought along a “picnic in a bag”, which consisted of smoked mozzerella, my mini cutting board, plates, and a knife. Once we got tired of the noise inside, we squeezed ourselves into the patio where Jesse and Jay puffed on cigars the rest of the night. The evening ended with more wine and a little coffee and Teddy Grahams from the am/pm. So much for boycotting the gas station. Anyway, it was fun to hang out with the neighbors and take advantage our amenities one last time.

Here are the photos.

I am a veggie.

I hope it’s Friday. It better be Friday. I’m lying in bed like brocolli and catching up on my TiVo programming right now and it’s awesome. So far I’ve watched the Season Finales of Ugly Betty and Grey’s Anatomy and I’m on Tuesday’s episode of Days of Our Lives. Ah…. This has been one wild and crazy week and it’s only going to get worse in the weeks to come. I need to learn how to clone myself. Anyone know if they’re doing that with humans yet?

Speaking of work, I’m in the middle of recruiting a friend of mine to come work with me. Dave just got back from two years in Guyana volunteering for the Peace Corps and 6 months of traveling Southeast Asia. Now he’s back home and looking for a job. So, he contacted me this week and came by this afternoon to check out my school and clinic. I also got to meet his girlfriend Lucy who’s really cool. They actually met in Guyana…aw, cute. After showing them around, I couldn’t help feeling a little embarrassed of how I live and where I work. I may have it rough at work sometimes but they made me feel like I had a wealth of support and equipment. They also talked about how life is so different here with all the driving and technology. They also commented on how such large sums of money are spent each day for such large amounts of food. After living in such rural conditions for so long I suppose their recent trip to Costco seemed really silly.

Bowling Party

It’s been three long years for the Wangs but they made it. Howard will be graduating with his MBA degree next month and it’s time to celebrate. With Katie being born right as he started the program, it wasn’t easy for either of them. Patti held down the fort with a new baby and full-time job while Howard worked all day and went to school all night and weekends too. Patti promised to throw Howard a big party when he finished and she certainly did. We joined them at Lucky Strike Lanes in Hollywood and Patti went all out and booked a private room complete with food, drinks, and four bowling alleys. Congratulations, Howard!

It was great to see everyone including all my mother-to-be friends. Juliet, Patti, and Patty are all expecting girls this year. For the first time in my life I actually felt like the smallest girl on the couch. 😉 How sad…

Anyway, I’d share photos with you but the photo above is pretty much all I have from last night. I took a few more but some dummy (me) accidentally deleted all the photos this morning before I could even look at them. I’m still kicking myself as we speak. *sigh*

Update: Now that I’ve recovered my photos, here they are. Enjoy!

I knew it!

Jimmy and Eleen took a trip to the Bahamas last week and I had the sneaky suspicion that he might be proposing.  Today I spoke with the man himself and I was right!  I am happy to announce that our Jimmy and Eleen are engaged!  He proposed to her on a small pier and of course she said “Yes”.   Woohoo!  Congratulations!!
