Last week, over IM, Ryan asked what we were doing for our anniversary. I thought, “That’s strange. Our anniversary is in November!” I wrote back to him “No plans yet. Why?” He wrote, “That’s when we’re having a baby and paying you $1000.” Sweeeeet.

Some of you know this already but a few years ago, Jes and Ryan made a bet: Whoever has a baby first has to pay the other couple $1000. Michelle and I actually didn’t find out about this bet until two years ago. My first thought was, “That’s a lot of money!” Then my next thought was “Why didn’t you tell me about this?!” I didn’t know whether to be amused or annoyed.

Anyway, the long-running bet has ended and our dear melters will be bringing a child into this crazy world of ours. So what do you get when a frog and bird make a baby? We’ll just have to wait and see. But seriously, I’m so happy and excited for them. This truly is THE year to have a baby. Congratulations You Two!!

Baby Season has Begun

We went to Debbie and Pish’s Baby Shower this afternoon. It was quite a shindig with a Hawaiian theme complete with Spam musubi and King’s Hawaiian cake. They had a baby bottle drinking contest and pass the pacifier game, which were pretty funny. We also got to see some old friends from UCLA there. The best part was hanging out with the Chamkasems.

As I was there, I was getting a string of emails on my Blackberry from my girlfriends. It started with Patty announcing that she’s having a girl. Then one from Annie announcing that she is having twins. Then one more email from Juliet who announced that she’s also preggers. With Debbie having her little girl in May, Patti having her second girl in May, Karrie having twin girls in June, Khai (our neighbor) having their second child this summer, and Marie having a baby in August, this will definitely be a year of babies. Congratulations to all of you!!

food, food, and more food

On Saturday, I had a full day…literally. Kevin and Karrie were in town and we went down to San Marcos to taste 5 different noodle dishes at a place called Noodles and Co. at around 12:00 pm. The dishes were all mediocre so we went next door to Chick Fil’A for nuggets and waffle fries. After that, we drove to the fancy St. Regis in Dana Point for coffee and dessert at about 3:30 pm. We then drove back up and got home at 5:15 pm. At 5:30 pm, I got back into the car and drove up to Venice for a 6:30 dinner date with the girls. We ate at Primitivo on Abbott Kinney where they served tapas and wine. It was so fun to share a variety of small dishes from risotto to scallops to cheeses to bacon-wrapped dates. And of course, I tasted 3 different wines by the half-glass. Tasty tasty fun.

Be Safe, Huy!

Our dear friend Huy is leaving for Iraq today.  He’s been preparing for this day for many many months now and the day is finally here.  He sounds relieved, anxious, and excited all at the same time.  Go to his blog (also found in my blogroll on the right) and wish him luck!

My First Photoshoot

A coule weeks ago, Michelle emailed me to see if I was interested in taking some family portraits for her dad’s 60th birthday. At first I didn’t know what to say since I had never done it before but agreed since it would be good experience and there was no real pressure.

So, yesterday, we all went to the park across from her parents’ house in Fountain Valley and took some shots. It was about 3:00 pm in the afternoon (DST) and there were plenty of trees, rocks, hills, and a lake. It was actually pretty fun but a little challenging trying to keep both Ryan and Michelle’s brother, Eric, in line. It was either Ryan making faces or Eric giving us the “Chandler smile” in every photo. We ended up with a few good shots with good lighting but the deciding factor for whether a photo turned out right was the look on Eric’s face. Were his eyes open? Did he have a squint? Does he look like he’s in pain? It was pretty funny.

Here are some for you to see…

yet another doc in the sandbox

Our dear friend Huy is getting ready for a 6-month deployment. If you didn’t already know, he’s been a Navy Doc for a few years now and will be going to Iraq this month. When he initially signed up for the Navy, it was pre-9/11 with no war in sight. It’s crazy how things can change so quickly.

In preparation for his departure, I got him set up with a blog. I think it will be good for him to be able to share with his friends and family back home what’s going on with him. It’ll also be good for us to get a glimpse of his experience as a doc for the Marines. Luckily, he’ll be on a base the whole time and I’ve advised him to stay put. We don’t need him going out and getting bombed or anything.

Here’s the url: http://httran.blogspot.com/. I’ve also added him to my blogroll (to the right) in case you’re too lazy to bookmark it. He’ll be posting regularly (right, Huy!?) so check it daily!
