Cleaning and Catching Up

This week has been all about cleaning up the house (like dusting the bookshelves in the corner that never get any attention) and catching up with friends.  Now that I’m 12 days away from my due date I’m not supposed to travel too far from home.

On Tuesday morning, I met up with Elaine.  She was brave enough to meet me in the city by driving to Millbrae BART Station (from Sunnyvale) and then taking BART to Powell Station where I found her.  We had a snack and some coffee while we chatted before I had to go to my doctor’s appointment.  It’s so nice to have an old friend around.  We’ve known each other since 2002 and we both got married the same year.  Wow, that was 10 years ago!  Happy 10th Friendship Anniversary, Elaine!!  🙂  Thanks for coming all the way up to see me!!!

On Wednesday, I drove across the bridge to Oakland.  I stopped at Target to buy some cleaning supplies and then Babies R Us to return some duplicate gifts that I received.  Then it was off to Genova Deli where I met up with Teresa and Steph for lunch.  It was like our usual Thursday lunch except it was a Wednesday and Nicole and Patty were too sick to come out that day.  Although we only hung out for about 40 minutes it was nice to just hang out with friends again.  I miss them.

I also stopped at the local children’s store next to the deli.  Turns out they have used clothes for sale in the back.  I bought Kumquat a little 3-month outfit: a cute Old Navy white knitted sweater for $8 and a pair of Old Navy jeans for $6.  They also buy your used clothes for 50% of what they think they can sell your items for in the store.  Good to know for later when it’s time to purge again.

Later that afternoon, I got a manicure and pedicure at the place down the street from home.  Let’s just say it was time to clean up my fingers and toes too.  I had always wanted to take advantage of mid-day/mid-week specials and I totally did because I finally could!

Last night, Patty texted me and we also got caught up on things.  I love iMessage!  Free text messaging is always a good thing.

This morning I also got a photo from Steph.  It was a photo of her Greasy Food Friday breakfast.  For as long as I can remember, the two of us have been going to the cafeteria on Fridays to get a tasty breakfast like a pancake and sausage patty or an egg sandwich with bacon.  Yum.  She sent me a photo last Friday and was right on time this morning too!  I think I’m going to have to keep Friday mornings sacred for her.  I ended up making an egg sandwich with ham today.

OK. This was a random post.  Just thought I’d keep you all updated on my day-to-day activities while Kumquat is still cookin’.  Jesse has the day off today so I’ve have some company today. Yay! Have a nice Friday!

Late Nights

Dayantha was in SF for the past week for a conference and then he stayed for the weekend.  Krissy also flew up on Wednesday night to join him.  So, starting on Thursday night, we were out late eating/drinking for the next 3 days.  My endurance was definitely tested this weekend.  Thursday night started at B Bar and then we had dinner at Zero Zero until it closed.  The food was tasty, everyone was hammered, and we didn’t get home until 12:30.  I was exhausted.

On Friday night, HH started at 5:30 and Jes went ahead without me while I took a nap first.  It was a good thing I did because we were out for another long night.  Luckily the evening was warm enough to hang out on the patio until 10:30.  It wasn’t until about 11 that we actually ate dinner at a hole-in-the-wall Thai noodle place.  We took the last Muni train back home and I SO was ready for bed.

On Saturday, we started the day with Dim Sum.  With 8 people around the table, we had a feast of dumplings and other tasty dishes.  After an afternoon nap, we went to Lucky Strike to watch the Final Four games and then had a fatty dinner at Pearl’s Deluxe Burgers afterward.  If a huge burger and chili cheese fries weren’t enough, the Masayas went to Bob’s Donut & Pastry Shop to pick up dessert.  They came over and we shared all their famous giant glazed donut along with some donut holes and an old fashioned.  I guess that was a good way to finish 3 late nights but I should probably have salads for the next few days.

4 Months Later

On Friday I drove down to San Jose to visit Ishya (my cousin), Billy, and the twins who just turned 4 months.  It’s amazing how much they’ve grown since the first day I saw them.  When I arrived, they were finishing up a morning nap and then I helped feed them and played with them before going out to lunch. Thanks for sending me this photo, Ishya!!

All 5 of us piled into the car with Billy crammed in the middle of the two carseats in the back.  It was comical but seemed to work out.  Ishya and I grabbed lunch at Whole Foods while Billy had to take a work call.

The twins were in their stroller napping pretty much the whole time and we got to do some catching up in the sun.

After lunch, we headed back to the house and found both Grandmas already there.  Since I was going to be around for a little longer, we also called my uncle to come over.  It was nice to see them and they were just as excited to see me (and my belly).

Here are the twins up-close.  They took turns fussing this afternoon but had their moments to shine too.

This is Sadie.

And this is Theo.

Here are the rest of the photos.

Staying Busy

It’s been a couple days since I last posted and no, I didn’t have the baby yet.  I’ve just been out and about more than I had expected these past few days.

On Thursday, I went to work to take care of some payroll stuff and drop off some donated clothes while Ranee met me there to show off Baby Sophie.  Everyone took turns holding her and she was NOT having it after a while.  Poor Steph ended up with a crying Sophie who needed a diaper change.  Afterward we went out to lunch and did some catching up.

We went to our usual lunch spots including Bakesale Betty and Peet’s afterward.  After dropping Steph back off at the hospital, I went over to Rockridge Kids with Ranee to take a look around at the stuff they sell since I have a $25 gift card that I received in a raffle basket last November.  They’re stuff is so cute yet so expensive!  So, I decided to hold off on getting anything for now since I have all that I need for a newborn at the moment.

At the end of our little stroll, Sophie woke up from her really long nap and was all smiles again.  It was weird going back to the hospital but good to see everyone again.  I know it’s only been a week since I’ve gone on maternity leave but I really miss my friends already.

Baby Bucket List

Saturday morning started out in the usual way:

  • I was up super early and hung out in the fort (a.k.a. sofa with my pillows and comforter) until the sun came up.
  • Jes made bacon and eggs for breakfast.
  • I did 40 minutes of my Pilates video while Jes went to the gym.

That was a good start to the day.

However, by about 1:00 pm, I was getting antsy and Jes was hungry.  So, we ventured into the rain (it rained ALL DAY) and had a late lunch at Hukilau, a Hawaiian place I’ve wanted to try for quite some time.  We’ve been going out to eat a lot more frequently lately since it’s so easy now and we don’t know how often we’ll get to do things on the fly once Kumquat arrives.  After our tasty plate lunches and Jes’ two pints of Longboard (on draft!), we were stuffed and ready to move on.

We decided to actually go to see a movie – in a theater!  It’s one of those things that people have been telling me to do before the baby comes.  Sorta like it’s on a Baby Bucket List or something.  So that’s what we did.  I think the last movie I saw in the theater was “Kungfu Panda 2” with my family and I seriously don’t remember the last time Jes and I went to see a movie together.  So, we went to the Westfield Shopping Center to check out what they were showing.  I’ve been carrying these Costco tickets in my wallet for about 4 years now and finally used them.  At first, we would see Hunger Games but was turned off by the crazy line that was forming 2 hours prior to each showing.  So, we settled for “Friends with Kids”, which was an appropriate movie for the occasion.  We had some time to kill so we went to a bar nearby for a drink.  In the spirit of my Hawaiian lunch, I ordered a strawberry lemonade that was made to look like a lava flow.  It was good but I can’t wait for my next lava flow in a few months from now.

The movie itself was cute but definitely something that I would have normally just put on my Netflix queue.  Jes also bought me popcorn and an ICEE and he got a box of chewy sweet tarts, which costed an arm and a leg but I guess it’s all part of the experience.

We got home around 9:00 pm and I was tuckered.  I pretty much passed out in bed and Jes ended up having to walk the dog in the rain and we skipped dinner.  Good times…

So, now that we’ve gone to a movie, go out to eat about every other day, and I’ve got the random naps through the day mastered, what else should we have on the bucket list?  Only 3 more weeks to go!

I could get used to this.

Today I had a brunch date with Ranee and little Sophie who is now 3 months old.  They flew in on Tuesday from NYC and we met up today at Rick and Ann’s Restaurant in Berkeley.  It was so nice to catch up with Ranee and we chatted over pancakes and waffles with a side of bacon and this awesome hash made of sweet potato, beets, onions, and bacon topped with creme fraiche.  Sounds weird but it was so good!

Sophie napped through our meal and then woke in time for a feeding and change outside.  We hung out in the courtyard for another two hours with coffee and Sophie and I got to meet and get to know each other.  She’s so sweet and smiles a lot.  She’s also recently discovered her hands and it’s so cute how she’s enamored by them.

After a while, I had forgotten that it was the middle of the day on a Friday.  I was having brunch and just hanging out without a care in the world…on a Friday!  Oh how nice it would be to be one of those “Ladies Who Lunch”.  I really could get used to this. Ranee just needs to move back to California (*wink wink*) so Kumquat and Sophie can have playdates every Tuesday morning while their Mommies sip coffee. 🙂  One can only dream…

Here a few more photos.
