I can’t keep up.

The Olympics Opening Ceremony was just 5 nights ago and I’m pooped. With coverage running live from 8:00 pm through past midnight every night, I’ve been losing a lot of sleep. I just can’t help getting sucked into the Olympic Games every four years and since I read the newspaper every morning, it doesn’t help to TiVo the games. So, it’s 10:30 pm now, I’m falling asleep, and gymnastics hasn’t even started yet! *sigh* Not sure I can hang on for 11 more nights of this.

From the Rooftop

Last night AT&T Park had one of their many fireworks displays. I have no idea when or why they have them but when they go off, I get a pretty good view of the show from my rooftop. I tested out my mini tripod and “Fireworks” setting on my digi and was pretty impressed with the results.

Here’s a photo of my side of the building with the ballpark in the background. If our unit was on the other side of the hallway, I would have been able to watch the show from my livingroom window. Instead, I must go to the rooftop patio, which is already pretty cool.

Afterwards, I stayed around to take some cityscape photos, which came out surprisingly well. I just turned it to “Nightscene” mode and voila!

He’s back!

This guy used to sit at MacArthur BART Station everyday and sold handmade beanies. He taught himself to crochet and makes enough to pay for rent and take weekends off. He even gives discounts to people who can’t afford to pay $10 for a hat. Well, I noticed a couple months ago that he suddenly disappeared. It was kinda weird since he had always been there ever since I started working at Children’s last summer. But then, this afternoon as I got off the shuttle, he was in his usual spot! Beanie Man is back. Nice to see ya again!

What’s in YOUR fridge?!

Hey everyone!  Show me what you’ve got in your fridge!

Here’s what I have: Izze Sparkling Juice and Coors Light. Woot! The pomegranate is my favorite and I love the simple but appealing logo.  The Coors Light is there because it’s always in my fridge.

Muni loves me.

p1010892.jpgRiding public transporation in the morning is usually a quiet, somber ride with everyone hiding behind their newspapers, furiously typing on their Blackberrys, sleeping, or staring into space with their iPods on. However, there are two trains that I can take to the BART station and they each give off a different “vibe”. First there’s the N-Train, which starts just down the street and usually carries a bunch of people in suits or scrubs on their way to the Financial District or UCSF Medical Center. The second is the KT-Train, which starts in the ghetto, goes through the Financial District, and then ends in the ghetto on the other side of town and usually transports people from the projects. It’s also very crowded, often littered, tagged all over, and just plain sucks.

Anyway, I’ve somehow managed to catch the same 7:40 KT-Train every day this week, which has made my morning commute a little more of a pain in the butt. However, there has been a silver lining in this. The driver of this particular train is someone worth writing about. Typically on any of the trains, the driver will usually announce the next stop. For example, “next stop, Folsom”. It’s helpful, brief, and impersonal. It’s good. Well, this particular driver has come from a different planet. It’s like he’s at Disneyland or something because he talks to us like we’re VIPs on a tour of San Francisco. Today, in his heavy Hispanic (I think) accent, he said, “The next stop is Embarcadero Station. Thank you for riding the KT line. I hope you have a wonderful, beautiful, fan-TAstic day and I will see you tomorrow again on the KT line at the same time on the same train. Remember that Muuuuni loves you and I love you. Thank you for being such good passengers and don’t forget you belongings.” Haha. I can’t help but smile. In fact, even some of the thugs couldn’t help give a chuckle or give a confused look to the guy standing in front of him. He’s done this every day this week, which makes me think that Mr. Muni is making somewhat of an impact in his seemingly mundane job. If he can make a sleepy thug smile, he’s doing a good job. Keep it up, Mr. Muni.

We dodged the bullet.

With the unfortunate news of both Aloha and ATA filing bankruptcy within a week of each other, it made me think how lucky we are to have gone with Hawaiian. On top of that, I checked the fares for our same exact flight this morning and the price has almost tripled! Phew…I’ll just have to cross my fingers that these guys don’t go kaput too.
