Running for a Cause

Starting on September 16th, I’ll be doing my first fundraising event.  Over the course of 27 days, I plan to run a total of 27.2 miles (26.2 miles + going an “extra mile” for the kids). It’s to raise money for my hospital and the money I raise will go directly to where I work, the Pediatric Rehabilitation Department.

July 4th

This year, I worked on July 4th and it actually wasn’t too bad.  We had a good group of therapists working and it was a lot more laid back than a usual day.  IMG_5532

Henry and Aaron also stopped by at lunch so that gave us a nice little break in the day.

I drove straight down to Redwood City from work and after enjoying some ribs, corn, and ice cream, we sat down and watched fireworks on tv.  It was such a nice way to end the day.  It sure beats having to fight traffic and crowds.

Baby Sprinkle

DSC_4900We had little party for Ranee who is expecting Baby #2 next month.

DSC_4893Lucy, our lovely hostess, prepared a bunch of yummy cocktails and we all pitched in on food, which is what we do best.

DSC_4906As with any baby party, there were cupcakes, gifts, and games.

Trinity

IMG_4163Our department got a new therapy dog from Canine Companions and she had her first day today.  Her name is Trinity and she’s a labrador+golden mix.  I met her this morning on my way to the cafeteria and we got to hang out for a bit in the hall.  As I walked away to buy my coffee, I nearly lost it.  Tears began to well up in my eyes and I had to take a moment to regroup.  I guess I still miss Koa.  I guess this therapy dog will be good for not only the patients but for the staff too.

Public Transit

IMG_3945Last Friday, the red warning light went off in the car on my way home.  It was overheating and I was still on the bridge.  Luckily, I was able to drive it home but it was in need dire need of repair.  So, this past week I took public transit to work and it actually wasn’t bad.  I liked having about 30 minutes of peace and quiet to read and catch up on emails.  I’d get up early, leave a little before 7 (before the kid woke up most mornings) and get to work around 7:38.  The reverse commute is pretty cool because it’s never crowded on the trains to and from work.  Getting home on time was a little tricky because there was a home game every day this week but work was light enough that I was able to leave just in time to catch the shuttle that usually arrived around 4:20.  Here are some photos I took this past week.

This was Wednesday evening’s commute.  Apparently there was a day game and no one went to work but me.IMG_3977

Love the reverse commute.  The Concord Train usually looks like this when I get on in the morning.

The car is all fixed now and Jes picked it up on Friday.  We had to replace the cooling system and the car should last us a bit longer now.

Tiger Time

IMG_2271My day started slowly as I was trying to muster any energy I had left from being sleep-deprived from a month-long struggle with a toddler who won’t sleep through the night.  At 11:00, I got a text from Teresa to see if I was free for lunch today.  We met up at the deli at 12 and had a quiet little lunch at the deli and I got to hold little Henry while we ate.  Ah…it’s nice to snuggle with a little baby in the middle of the work day.  It really calms and energizes the soul at the same time.  Thanks, T.  I really needed that.  This is the selfie we took together while his mommy was getting her lunch.
