Friday Commute
When I left for work on Friday morning, I heard the traffic report just as I was going up the on-ramp to the bridge. They reported an overturned SUV just before Treasure Island and to expect long delays. Just a minute before, I had 3 emergency vehicles pass me. No wonder. Luckily my on-ramp is already on the bridge so I didn’t have to fight the 101 back-up. I stayed on the far right lane and we all just crept along smoothly with all the action happening on the far left. My commute to work usually takes only 15-20 minutes and traffic is typically light so the fewer number of cars having to squeeze by really helped. As I approached the scene at a snail’s pace, I got a clear view of the accident. Crazy. In the 7 years I’ve been driving to work, this has not yet happened on my commute. How do you flip your car in such a narrow roadway anyway?! Fortunately, I was only about 10 minutes late to work just in time to join Stephanie for our Greasy Food Friday breakfast.
On my way home, there was another accident at the 280-101 interchange so my westbound commute on the bridge was slower than usual. What a crazy Friday. It’s just funny to think this is a heavy traffic day for me (10-minute delay both ways). I’m pretty lucky right now and I certainly do not miss LA traffic.
Baby Henry
This morning, I went to Teresa’s house to take some photos of James Henry.
He turned one month old today and he’s now a pound over his birth weight. Yay!
Teresa and Aaron are doing well and it was so good to spend some time with T and Henry.
This little boy is such a cutie.

BART Adventure
The girls planned a Happy Hour this evening and I was up to the challenge of going home, packing up the baby (and her stuff), and taking her to Oakland by Muni and BART. It was easier that I expected and actually pretty fun. I enjoy my girl time with Kumquat and love seeing the world through her eyes.
Something as simple as an escalator is like a new adventure. It was also neat to see how she was able to figure out when to step off the moving steps at the top.
I was afraid she would want to wander off each time I had to let go of her hand to unfold the stroller and I thought she would mess around or turn into a potato on the floor while we transferred trains. Instead, she held my hand and stayed put when she was supposed to. She even managed to walk up the stairs at to the Rockridge station platform all on her own power without pooping out.
Having a toddler is tough sometimes but I can’t describe how proud I am of her each day. She’s becoming such a big girl and while she impressed me at my Work Holiday Party, this adventure impressed me even more.
Lunch Visitor
Teresa and Aaron brought Henry to our usual Thursday lunch spot and I got to snuggle with him while I finished my salad.
This is the picture of a boy who is milk wasted!! He’s a big eater now and has grown since I last held him when he was less than a week old. At 3 weeks, he’s made up the weight he’s lost and surpassed his birth weight. Woot!
2014 Kickoff
In lieu of a Christmas Party, our department at work decided to have a holiday party in January. It was held in my Club Room last night and we had a great turn out.
I think at one point we probably have about 50 adults and 13 kids!!
The last time we had a party was two years ago when I was 5 months preggo. Now we’ve had an explosion of children with the addition of Kumquat, Vivian, Sophie, and now Henry!
On top of the kiddie section, there was an area where the boys could follow the football game too.
Jes played a mean game of Jenga with Eli and lost.
Everyone seemed to have a good time including the kids. Kumquat was on her best behavior and played with almost anyone who was around. She’ll be Mommy’s Little Helper in no time!
I ordered Thai food from down the street and they delivered so set-up was a breeze. Clean-up also wasn’t as bad as years before since I actually ordered the right amount of food this time!
This was a great way to kick off the new work year. Cheers!
