New Toy Alert!!

My point-and-shoot is dying (mostly from overuse and my clumsiness) so I went shopping online for a replacement a few weeks ago.  I also had some money saved up from my photo gigs so I thought I’d treat myself to a new toy.  After looking at Leica, Canon, Panasonic, and all the other brands out there, I decided to get the new-ish Canon S90.  Why?  Well, here are a few reasons:

  1. I’ve owned countless Canon compact cameras (film and digital) and they’ve always given me good results.  In fact, half of the stock photos that I’m still selling (and making money on) were taken with a Canon compact digi.
  2. It has a nifty ring in the front that can help adjust zoom, aperture, ISO, or whatever else you want to assign to it.
  3. It shoots in RAW format!  Nice.
  4. It has manual mode, which allows me to control the aperture and shutter speed.
  5. It still has the convenience of a small camera with all the automatic modes that I’m used to having.

So, I went on Amazon two nights ago, used my free Amazon Prime membership (thanks to DiDi!), and it arrived at my door this evening!  Yippee!!  I just charged the battery and it’s ready to go.  Can’t wait to start snappin’!!!  It’s supposed to be able to take decent photos in dimly lit places so I’ll have to test it out next time we go out to eat.

Black vs. Lime Green

On Saturday, I went to lululemon to shop for a new gym bag.  I looked at 4 different designs and finally decided on this one called the Classy Classic II Gym Bag.  The next decision was the color and material.  It came down to the black neoprene with black trim or the gray leathery one with lime green trim.  Given away by the photo above, I chose the sassy gray and green one.  I figured that I had enough boring black bags.

Anyhoo, the bag has handles that are big enough to sling over my shoulder but also has a longer strap to cross over.  Inside it’s HUGE with lots of little pockets along the inner lining.  It also has a pocket that’s big enough to fit my laptop if I want to use it as a carry-on.  The bag also comes with a handy-dandy waterproof pouch that’s perfect for my stinky shoes.  The outside has pockets big enough for my water bottle and it’s in the shape of the omega, which is their logo.

Call me silly for blogging about a bag but I don’t get around to buying things like this very often.  Can’t wait to use it this week!

I gave in.

While we were in Hawaii, Jes couldn’t stop talking about how awesome it would be to have an iPad for reading, surfing the internet, and watching movies on vacation.  He went on and on and on and I fought back with “you don’t need it you don’t need it you don’t need it”.  Unfortunately, I’m a sucka for good design and gadgets so I eventually gave in and secretly ordered one for him as soon as we got back.  When I picked him up after a hard day at work, I surprised him with my order confirmation email and it sure did lighten his spirits.

On Tuesday, I got an email notifying me that it was shipped (from China!!) and it arrived via FedEx yesterday.  Wow, that’s fast!

This morning Jes picked up the package from the Association office (they accepted and signed for us) and he broke open the box this evening.  It’s gorgeous and so much fun for surfing and reading.  Jes downloaded the Netflix app and it’s ready for On Demand movie watching.  I went into the app store and downloaded a few books for myself and searched for some free games.

Yes yes…we’re suckers…and now we have another Apple product added to our ever-growing gadget family.

Raaawwrr!

One of my favorite photo websites is Photojojo and they sell a bunch of really cool products. Another cool thing about the company is that when you receive your order in the mail, it comes with a tiny dinosaur! Well, in my last order there was no dino. Boo… So I emailed them last week to find out whether or not it was included in all the packages or just random ones. Just so happens that they ran out of dinos and they sent my order without it so that it wouldn’t be delayed. AND THEN they offered to send me a dino now since they had more of them in stock. So today in the mail I received not only one but TWO!!! Call me silly but I was so excited to get teeny tiny dinosaurs in the mail. They made me smile.

Puddles!!!

This morning the rain came down pretty hard and I still had the task of walking the dog. It was the perfect opportunity to test out my new rain boots!!!

I bought them on sale at Sports Basement and they’re awesome!  Here’s a link to them if you wanted details.

I took the dog and the waterproof camera outside for some rainy day fun.  I guess I was the only one actually having fun. Dog was super confused by all the jumping and wading through the deep puddles.

All-in-one Running Around

One of the best things about being on vacation is that I have time in the middle of the day to run.  It also allows me to explore places on foot.  This morning the dog came with me to Regional Park and we ran around the park once and down Shoemaker.  I love Cerritos.  It’s so clean, quiet, safe, and has lots of paths to take on foot.

Yesterday, I ran around the Cerritos Towne Center.  I have so many other places to explore!

I’ve also been using the iMapMyRun application on my iPhone. I used to run with a GPS device on my wrist, an iPod on my arm, and a phone in my pocket for emergencies. Now I have it all in one device!! I just turn on the application, stick it in my pocket, and go. It tracks my route and then immediately sends the workout to my account. It also doubles as my phone for emergencies and I can listen to music from it too. I loved my Blackberry but it wasn’t nearly as useful as my iPhone. I am a true fan now.
