Even Stevens

IMG_5199On Sunday we went to watch the America’s Cup Finals again.  Oracle Team USA started out with a 2-point penalty and was getting their butts kicked early on.  At one point, it seemed pretty pathetic and that the Kiwis would take it all very easily.

IMG_5200On Sunday, the score was 8 to 3 with New Zealand favored to win it that day.  They only need to get to 9 to win the cup and there were two races scheduled that day.

IMG_5201Once again, I ran to the park with Kumquat in the stroller and we got a good spot on the lawn again with a giant beanbag and all.  We had plenty of time to do a little shopping in the stores and grabbed lunch from the truck parked inside before the races began.

IMG_5232We had empanadas, garlic fries, and shared the water bottle of wine that we brought from home.

IMG_8484Well, the two races were actually pretty exciting to watch and USA won both races!  Amazing.

There was a race yesterday (Monday) and two today (Tuesday).  USA won all three and now their tied at 8 to 8!  Who would have thought this would go on for so long?!  Everyone expected there would be a winner by the end of summer but it’s fall now and we still don’t have a winner.  If the conditions cooperate, there is one more race scheduled for tomorrow.  Too bad I have to go to work because it would have been fun to go watch it.  I honestly don’t care who wins.  It’s just been a fun event to mark the summer of 2013 for us.

Update 9/25/13: They won the America’s Cup today!  Wow, unbelievable.

new bridge

IMG_8276 I drove across the new bridge today.  It’s surprisingly sunny going eastbound since I’m used to being covered by the upper deck.  IMG_8277It was cool to see the old bridge off to the side and I also saw some pedestrians and cyclists on the walkway to the right.

IMG_4883Here are photos while going westbound back to SF. IMG_8305  It’s a pretty impressive bridge.

Crappy Traffic

IMG_4210Yesterday I got off at 3 pm so that Mirian could go home to Karla who was sick with a fever.  Because of a big rig fire that occurred earlier that morning (5 am), there was a terrible back-up even as I was trying to get home in the afternoon.  It took me 45 minutes to drive 9 miles!  Thank goodness there wasn’t a BART strike today.

IMG_4239Look at how different it was today!

Blueberries

blueberriesWent to the Farmer’s Market today and it’s blueberry season.  I heard that it lasts only a few weeks and the local blueberries are pretty tasty!  I bought a pint for Kumquat and thought they looked so much prettier than the ones you buy at Safeway.

Bay Bridge

bridge lightsThe Bay Bridge has a special light display that started last month.  It’s on the western span of the bridge and you can see if from The Embarcadero.  I hadn’t seen it yet so after the baby went to sleep, I took Koa for a long walk down to see the lights.

Here’s one part of the show.

Here’s another part of the show.

It’s going to be on display until 2015 and turns on a dusk and turns off at 2am everyday.  Pretty cool!

muniIt was pretty late when it was time to head back so the dog and I took Muni home.  Koa’s ridden Muni and the bus before but I guess it had been a while because when we got on, he was shakin’ in his britches the whole way home.  Silly dog.

And it starts again…

IMG_1607Baseball season officially started in my neighborhood this afternoon.  Attendance was high since it’s the first home game since winning the World Series last fall and there was a big ceremony for the new championship flag.  I was home early to go to our tax appointment and avoided most of the activity but getting off the freeway when we got home was not fun.
