Never sharpen again!

dsc_4623a.jpg

I’ve always loved crayons.  There’s nothing like a brand new set of crayons – all perfectly sharpened and in order.  The worst (and most painful) thing about crayons is when you’ve used up the tip and it’s time to carefully peel a centimeter of the wrapper and sharpen it.  Despite having a sharp tip, it’s never the same as when they’re brand new.  *sigh*

Anyway, before your eyes begin to roll, I must tell you about a new invention from Crayola.  They’re twistable crayons!!  You never have to peel the label and the crayons can’t break!!  I tested them out on my new Hello Kitty coloring book and the coloring quality is the same as the original and I’ll never have to make a sharpening mess ever again!  If you have or work with kids, you’d understand the excitement.  If you don’t, you should get some and start coloring again.  There’s something very relaxing about coloring.  I colored about 3 pages on Saturday and it was so much fun.  These guys are coming to Belize with me fo’ shizzle!

recycled shoes

My sneakers are made from recycled materials. They’re called “ecosneaks” and they’re pretty comfy. Uppers are made of hemp. Outsole is made of old tires. Insole is made of paper pulp. The laces are PET (recycled plastic bottles and containers). Cool, huh?!

I love my bag!

My friend Eleen, the girl that Jimmy was lucky enough to snag, has started her own line of bags. Her work is amazing and I’m still in awe of her talent. This is also a girl that pretty much made everything for her wedding, which included stationery, favors, and even her own wedding gown!! So, I was browsing her site, eleen.com, and found the cutest “skip around town bag” that I just HAD TO HAVE. When I told her that I wanted to buy it, she offered to make me my very own as a gift for helping with her wedding.  Aw…so sweet.

So on Friday, Eleen gave it to Jimmy who then delivered it to Jesse who then brought it home to me and I proudly wore my first eleen bag all weekend long. Check it out…

It’s made of ballistic nylon with an over-the-shoulder strap and made with the cutest fabric that has the Sho Chiku Bai rice bag design on it.

On top of that, get a load of all the cool details put into it: a lip balm/pen holder, inner pocket, and key latch. It also has a secret pocket on the side (see the zipper on the right?) to stash your phone, BART pass, or maybe some weed…haha, just kidding.

So, she’s still just a one-girl show working from home but if you want to check out what she has in stock, go directly to eleen.com or her online shop at etsy.com.  Kate Spade had better watch out.

Goodbyes

Three years ago, Jes and I went to the BMW dealership in hopes of finding a 3-series wagon. In the end, the X3 was a better deal so that’s what we took home.  Above is a photo of me at the dealership.

Right off the lot, we headed up to Mammoth with the excitement of an awesome weekend in the snow and a new car to test out on the icy roads. I will never forget the time we were heading back down that Sunday with the “miles left” indicator blinking “0.0” and then “–“. Ah, the memories. To this day, we still salute Jaw Bone Station on our way up to Mammoth.

Now it’s January 30, 2008 and our lease has ended. Last night, we went down to the garage to clean out the car and take down the racks. It sounds pretty silly but I’m going to miss our trusty Sport Activity Vehicle and also the convenience of driving. Jes returned the car this morning and now we are about to embark on a little experiment I will call “We Have No Car”. I’ll have to keep you posted on how that pans out.  What a funny coincidence that I’m wearing the same sweatshirt on my last night with the car.  Haha.

Today also marks another significant milestone. My mother has retired from her job of 20+ years at the DMV. Yep, no more cutting in line. And no more “Mommy, can you pay my registration and I’ll pay you back later?”. Bummer. I guess it’s pretty good timing for us though. We won’t need to worry about much besides renewing our licenses every 3 years.

Oh no…it’s back.

dsc_0119a.jpgI’m finally on Christmas vacation. We drove down last night and the traffic wasn’t horrible. However, the congestion on I-5 was pretty annoying with sudden brake lights every once in a while.

We arrived in BP around 11-ish and Jason was home. Not only was Jesse excited to see his little brother again but also to start playing WoW again. *sigh* I don’t know how I agreed to this but it’s true. The game that stole my husband for over a year is back. Fortunately for me, they both uninstalled the game from their laptops and have been spending the past 24 hours trying to get the game back onto their computers. So the playing hasn’t started yet and we were able to get out of the house today.

nikkor28-200.jpgI also got to play with one of my Christmas gifts from Jes. He got me the Nikkor 18-200 mm lens and it’s pretty fun so far. It’s nice and compact and the range is great. This has pretty much replaced my trusty kit lens (18-70 mm) and the zoom lens (80-200 mm) that I never use. I’m pretty happy with the lens and I think that this was Jes’ way of smoothing over the WoW-playing for the time being. Curse you, Blizz!!

G-Love

I love Garmin. My Forerunner stopped working a couple weeks ago and it totally bummed me out. After all the firmware upgrades, etc, it stopped finding the satellites. So, I called them today and the very nice tech support dude helped me out. Initially, we tried to update everything again as he walked me though it over the phone but in the end he said, “It looks like there’s actually something wrong with your Forerunner.” When he said that I had two thoughts. 1) “Haha, I’m not the technical idiot you thought I would be.” and 2) “Oh man, I’m either going to get screwed with a repair fee or have to buy a new one.” Instead, he told me to ship it to Garmin and they’ll send me a new one. Solid. Mr. Darrell hooked me up with an extended warranty and a new Garmin. Woohoo! Since it was due to the most recent update (aka not my fault), they’ve put my problem under warranty even though it’s been over a year since I purchased the unit. This has to be one of the most successful customer service calls I’ve ever had.
